Masi Oka talks NBC's HEROES

ComingSoon.net was lucky enough to be able to sit down with Masi Oka who plays Hiro Nakamura on NBC's hit show HEROES.

"This is like a dream come true," said Masi Oka about his characters powers. "It's a two-fer first of all! Just having teleportation or chronokinesis is bitching, but to have both... that's like a two-for-one deal! I personally think that Hiro is just overpowered and he needs to be nursed a little. That's just me, but don't tell the writers that!"

WHen asked about the connections between characters, he said, "I haven't met Hayden yet. There is a connection to Ali that is being made. What's great about this series is that these connections are going to be made relatively soon. Tim came up with an amazing vision, and then you have all these wonderful writers from other shows like "Lost," "Smallville," "Everwood," "Wonder Falls" who came to our show and added on to Tim's vision. Tim didn't come from a comic book background, so these writers knew what worked and what didn't work. They've gone through the "lab rat" phase and now they're bringing all the great stuff that worked in serialized "genre" television into "Heroes." One of the things they do is they answer as many questions as they ask. Instead of stringing along and keep on teasing the audience and not answering questions, they answer the questions, but they also ask as many for the next episode. That's what keeps you constantly motivated to see the next script. Every time I get the script, I'm like, "Oh my God! That is so cool! I would never guess that!" and like "That's how it ends! What's going to happen next!?" Which is so cool, because it's exactly what a comic book would do."

He continued, "We're more fans, than just actors. That's why Tim doesn't tell us stuff, but at the same time, we don't like to hear much about what is going to happen to our character, because I love taking the journey with Hiro and discovering this with him. It's just so brilliant, and it gets better and better and better, and yet they have a vision for the entire season or three seasons, they said. That's what's phenomenal. So they're really on top of the ball. They really know how to tell a story, and our job is to bring it to life."

There is soooo much more over here so be sure to check it out.

If you haven't given this show a look yet ... what are you waiting for? I haven't been this excited for a new TV show since the first season of LOST. I know that doesn't sound like much, but I have never been more drawn to a TV show than I was with these first four episodes. Give it a chance, I need more people to talk about the show with as 14 million isn't nearly enough.

This show is better than Lost could ever hope to be!!

All I have to say about this show is: WOW!
Last night, at the end of the episode, my hair was positively standing on end and I had gossebumps everywhere...and I do mean everywhere...and I haven't felt that sort of dread, anticipation and sheer televisiony goodness in AGES!

I actually wanted the show to keep going last night...I even squinted my eyes and tried for it to be next week...it failed.

How about that ending? Damn! This show is quickly coming close to beating out Lost for me, in terms of anticipation for the next episode every week. Isn't *quite* there yet, but if Lost doesn't start answering some damn questions, Heroes will easily surpass it! I know many disagree with me and think Heroes is already better, but I'm not there yet.

Heroes is off the hook! So far this has been the best episode. The subway scene with Peter had me trippin. I thought, oh great, Sylar has time stopping powers too. But then to see Hiro dressed up as a ninja, I was like NO WAY! Its cool how the show gives little hints of the future without giving away too much. Hiro has definitely become a fav of mine.

Finally good to see Nicki's alter ego actually show up. I wonder? Is she super strong and a bit invulnerable when she becomes "bad" Nicki? And what's up with that tattoo on her back shoulder? Hmmmm.

Next to BSG, this is one show I can't wait to watch every week.

I still don't think Sylar has multiple powers. So far everything we've seen him do (if that was him at the FBI building last week) can be attributed to Telekinesis.

Sylar alos has some sort of freezing ability.

nax37 • Oct 17, 2006, 11:41am •
Maybe. All we know is that little girls father was frozen when the cops found him. Who knows if Sylar froze him or if someone else did. All we've seen Sylar do (again, assuming the man Matt shot at was Sylar) is: Force that FBI woman to put her gun to her head, fall when shot at (the bullets could have been blocked by a telekinetic shield, impact from the bullets forcing him down), and fly away (which again, could be done through telekinesis.)

lister • Oct 17, 2006, 11:55am •
Possibly, but I think it's unlikely that Sylar works with a partner when on a killing spree. If "he" is that powerful, there's no need to team up. I guess he could use telekinesis to force air past a victim at such a rate that heat is absorbed away. But it's just as likely he has multiple powers.

Here is My WAG (Wild-ass-guess): Sylar has figured out a way to take the powers of other Powered individuals by taking the brain and extracting the chemicals. That's why he travels all over the country, and why the FBI/NSA think he is a serial killer. Also, I think the Indian Doctor faked his death. Call me crazy, but it's my WAG!
