Myers Updates Story for AUSTIN POWERS 4 - Jul 31, 2008 - 08:45am
[Some spoilers may apply here] I have never forgiven Mike Myers for the abomination that was "Austin Powers: Goldmember." He took what was a good series and flushed it down the toilet. There were so many WTF moments: Mini-Me switches sides to become Mini-Austin? Austin has a father played by Michael Caine? Dr. Evil is Austin's brother?! And casting "popular at the time" stars like Beyoncé Knowles really killed the series. She was horrendous. And the Tom Cruise and Britney Spears cameos in the beginning made me want to get up and walk out of the theater. When you take a pop-culture phenomenon and let everyone in on it, it's no longer hip and cool. It became Hollywood clown vomit. And it really showcased how "un-cool" the series had become when he had the little cartoon "mojo" icons floating around him. They had too much money to throw around during production and Myers was too over the top. And frankly, Goldmember was a very weak character who was gross too (peeling his skin flakes off). Not even remotely funny. I will admit that the "Moley-moley-moley" line was funny, but only for the first 200 times I heard it in public. And for years, we had idiots doing terrible Austin impressions in public: "Oh, beeeehave!" and "Do I make you horny, baby?" over and over. It just became old, wore-out jokes. Yes, this 3rd installment ruined the series for me and many others. I can't even watch the first two movies anymore, because I started to realize that Mike Myers' humor isn't all that special. He just got lucky with a couple of roles. And I won't even comment on his recent movies, which have lead to ultra-disasters like "The Love Guru." The only good thing you can say about Mike Myers today is "at least his career is better than Eddie Murphy's." Austin Powers 4? No thanks. I'm over it.

Djimon Hounsou is The New THULSA DOOM - Jul 22, 2008 - 09:34am
I'm in total agreement with you guys. Thulsa Doom came and went, with an astounding performance by James Earl Jones. It should never be recast, but that's Hollywood for you. They'll continue to butcher Howard's work until we stand up and say "Hell no, we're NOT paying for this pseudo-Conan crap." Vote with your pocketbooks. Hey, it worked for "Meet Dave."

Sci-Fi Announces New Genre Slate - Jul 22, 2008 - 09:28am
Well, I don't watch Stargate, so if it stays or goes, it's of no consequence to me. Once that is over and BSG runs its course, SciFi Fridays will be weak at best. None of these shows sound remotely interesting and if they're going the reality route, then I won't be watching.
