Comments:
Where to begin? If the Wachowskis can pull it off -- and there's every indication that they will do so in spades -- the two Matrix sequels of 2003 will make mega box office and cement the brothers techno-action franchise as the logical heir of Star Wars for the 21st century. They made bullet-time what it is today, turned Keanu Reeves into a superhero, brought Hugo Weaving to a mainstream audience and proved that a philosophical cyberpunk noir film can actually be done. Whether you're a fan of the film or one of its detractors, there's no escape that THE MATRIX has left a permanent mark upon genre cinema for decades to come.
Scoop Feedback:
April 23, 2003... The Imax Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced plans to release THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS to IMAX theaters. RELOADED will debut in the giant-sized screens shortly after the 35mm release on May 15 while REVOLUTIONS will open on both IMAX and 35mm screens on the same day, November 5. This will be the first time that a mainstream Hollywood picture will be released simultaneously on both IMAX and traditional theatrical formats.
"We're excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the world of THE MATRIX in this spectacular format," said Joel Silver, producer of the three sci-fi films. "Throughout the IMAX DMR conversion process, the IMAX team took meticulous care in maintaining the technical integrity of the films. The IMAX Experience of both THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS will add a new dimension to the films' groundbreaking visual action and advances the Wachowski Brothers' vision for telling the trilogy's story in multiple formats."
Both films will be digitally remastered to fit the IMAX screens and audio projection environment, just as APOLLO 13 was when it was released in the IMAX format last year. [Source: The IMAX Corporation.]

August 15, 2003... We've just received word from one of our sources that Warner Bros. has tentatively scheduled to begin screening the trailer for THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS on September 12. That's the same date that the studio releases Ridley Scott's latest film, MATCHSTICK MEN, starring Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell.
Our source also informs us that the REVOLUTIONS trailer is mostly a "very good re-editing" of the previously seen material from the third MATRIX film, save for a couple of new shots included. [Anonymous source.]
