Matthew Vaughn for Star Wars: Episode VII?

A Rumor?

By Robert T. Trate     November 07, 2012
Source: Collider.com

Collider.com is running the current story that X-Men: First Class director, Matthew Vaughn, is RUMORED to the be the next director in the Star Wars franchise. They report that this is unconfirmed, but does have the backing of a few reliable sources.
They state: “Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-Ass, Stardust, Layer Cake, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks with Lucasfilm to helm Star Wars: Episode VII.  My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing).” - Steve Weintraub
I for one think Vaughn is the logical choice. We have seen him do gritty action thrillers with Layer Cake and Kick-Ass. He can also balance multiple characters and relaunch a franchise, X-Men: First Class. Vaughn is also completely competent in the whimsy/ fantasy arena as well, just watch Stardust

It is only a RUMOR at this point, let’s hope this one is true.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

Bleh, jack of all genres, master of none. But at least it is not Michael Bay.

The first rumor I raed was that he dropped out First Class to direct Secret Service  which I read Vaughn is partly responsible for creating along with Millar.

The worst of this story is that Bryan Singer is directing the Xmen sequel, which I didn't know...

There's going to be a feeding frenzy over this job and every entertainment web site is going ape shit to try and get the scoop on the director of the next Star Wars movie. So I take this news with a bag of salt until I hear an official word from Disney.

I would be perfectly fine with Vaughn if it turns out he's the man. Although some of you didn't like 1st Class I thought it was one of the best superhero movies ever made. It was intelligent, appealing to the adult intellect but still fun and suitable action. He stepped into another man's franchise pool (Bryan Singer) and not only adapted to it but augmented it making it better. He has also demonstrated the same in his other efforts. He could do the same in Star Wars.

'Nuther wait and see if it is really true.

Well, I loved Layer Cake. It was awesome in the same vein as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Kick Ass was, well, kick ass. X-men First Class was a well made movie even though I despise the portrayal of the X-Men themselves.

So I think he may be a good choice. I hope he is a massive Star Wars fan so he if he does he hired for the job he give it his best effort. hell, it will better than Lucas!

My biggest question now is who is doing the writing???????

Dudes, this news is Kick Ass!! I love Vaughn! He's got talent.

ElBaz13 11/7/2012 8:27:49 AM

Yes but if Vaughn sigms, he will walkout during pre-production.

See: X-men Last Stand, Thor and now X-men Days of Future Past. All dropped out.

I could see him clashing with Disney people and walking away to keep the streak alive.

I love Vaughn, he's more than proven himself as far as I'm concerned, but one thing is for sure here, no matter who get this gig they won't be calling ALL the shots.  This is guaranteed to have Kathleen Kennedy and several others heavily involved in the decision making process so whoever they get better be a team player.  I'm not saying Vaughn isn't the guy, because we don't really know any of the real reasons for his previous departures, but if he wants a project with little executive involvement then he better steer clear of Star Wars.  No other film in history is gonna have the scrutiny and pressure to perform that Episode VII will have.

I'm a big fan of what Vaughn did with X-men, I thought he did great in story telling and that it had nice flow to the story. I will not say go ahead and do all 3, but I would approve of this choice.

I am very dissapointed that it will mean he won't be filiming the sequel and that Singer will.

The story writting is the biggest issue here... how much influence George will have on the story/characters. That might scare me more than Singer on X-men.
