Marvel Studios has chosen director/producer Matthew Vaughn to lead up their next franchise to grace the big screen, THOR, says Variety. Vaughn is known for his producing credits in Snatch & Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells as well his first directorial effort in LAYER CAKE.  Scribe Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) handled the adaptation from comic book to screenplay. Pre-production for the hammer wielding superhero will begin this winter in hopes of getting it in the works before the pending strike takes place.

Plot Summary: No plot summary for the movie but the Marvel comics is about Thor Odin as a blonde-tressed, hammer-wielding hero who's sent to Earth to protect mankind. In the Marvel series, he was sent down by his father, Odin, to learn the ways of mankind and a lesson in humility. He was sent down to inhabit the body of a disabled medical student named Donald Blake in his early years. Eventually, he was returned to his own body and humbled, he stayed down to help mankind with his strength and hammer.

Is anyone else worried that he's going to ditch out on this just like he did on X-Men 3?

What's that sound that Pac-Man makes when he dies? Title it and apply it to this movie.

I'm actually all for a full on norse mythological flick set in Asgard. Thor v Loki. Throw in some frost giants n trolls and all sorts of other meanies runnin round to be beat down by Thor n the hot ass Valkyries. Gold.

Thor is a character that has never reached his full potential... even in comics... he is Marvels Superman... and if handled correctly could be something special... on the other hand, if given the Ghost Rider treatment... could be terrible.

This could be a great set up for that future Avengers movie they keep talking about.
That dude from the 13th Warrior, the leader, would be perfect as Thor. Odinson has always been one of my favorite characters. If handled correctly this could be really good. Loki is a great villian too. Maybe an appearance from Heimdell and Balder, Not to mention Lady Sif and Odin.
Yeah, it needs to be a little more serious and better handled than Ghost Rider.
And not for nothing, but out of all the Thor pics to put up, you put up Thor-Girl?

pony - I'm completely with you on the pic. I was huge Thor fan back in the day, and I've been following this rumor for a while. Word on the streets is that they have already opened talks with Vladimir Kulich, the guy from 13th WArrior (who absolutely kicks A$$ by the way). I agree there is no one better on the planet to play the part, quiet, brooding, blond and buff, he has all the key elements.

I have high hopes for this. Vaughn is an accomplished director and Marvel/Hollywood is taking the usual route of taking a talented little known director and giving him his first big budget project.
I wonder if they plan on a Thor comes to Earth and becomes Don Blake and battles evil or Thor stays up in Asgard and has a LOTR type adventure?
