Apparently Disney isn’t only remaking Sleeping Beauty (aka Maleficent) as a live action movie. Disney has just announced that Cinderella has been cast in their next live action adaptation. Here is the official press release from Disney:
Actress Lily James (Downton Abbey) has been cast as Cinderella in Disney’s upcoming live-action interpretation of the beloved classic tale. The film is being directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Henry The V) and stars Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit) as the iconic evil stepmother.
The screenplay is being written by Aline Brosh McKenna (We Bought a Zoo) and Chris Weitz (American Pie)
Cinderella has a release date of 2014. Oddly enough, that is the same release year for Maleficent.
Disney promises more announcements in the coming weeks.
