Human Torch Casting

A different choice?

By Robert T. Trate     May 02, 2013
Source: The Wrap and The Wrap are reporting that Chronicle star Michael B. Jordan, is being consider for the role of the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four reboot (pictured on the left below). It was reported yesterday that Girls star Allison Williams is on the short list for the Invisible Woman, aka Susan Storm (pictured on the right). Yes, that’s right Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, could be portrayed by a black actor.

This does open the possibilities for other actors to now step into iconic roles only portrayed by white actors. This would also mean that Fox and Marvel Studios would have to slightly change the origin of the Storm family. Was it Susan or Johnny that was adopted? Did they have different fathers? Perhaps Marvel and Fox will go one step further and change the entire Fantastic Four all together? Without even a cast in place yet, Josh Trank‘s F.F. already has one thing going for it, discussion.

Nothing is official yet except that the Fantastic Four is slated to open March 6, 2015. The same year as Avengers 2 and Star Wars Episode VII

Seriously? a black actor for Human Torch?

Fox has now become the official joke of any superhero movies.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

ok, ok I get it now..... the Human Torch would naturally turn a little brown after flaming up so many times!

I see what u did there Fox....  ; )

I said a similar thing in another thread about this. One of the 2 siblings could be adopted or maybe their parents are an interracial couple. Or they could just never address the topic and let everyone just wonder about it.

I think for the general audience this won't be a big deal especially since nowadays no one even blinks at interracial or mixed families......

.......for some hardcore fans of the comic books it may be a big deal. Me? since we already had a fairly true adaptation of the character I think I can be OK with some changes.

Okay!!  Now this is wrong.  And its not an equal rights kinda but WRONG WRONG.  Fury I can deal with, Alicia Masters in the last ones okay...Even Kindpin because MCD just worked in that role.  But this is too much.  Let me guess adopted mixed family??  Step brother!  Give get this back in the hands of Marvel already.

I not watch if this is true. I am just sick of Fox shitting all over the comics liek they are crap. I am not supporting Fox anymore.  I am not giving thos bastards even one cent.

If the made Black Panther white people wou;d shit a brick and scream racism at the tops of their lungs. But if they make a white character black then it is JUST F*CKING FINE. God damned HYPOCRITES.

I think Jordan is great to cast in the role of a super hero. Just seeing him in Chronicle was awesome. All three actors did well. Hence the perfect casting of Harry Osborne in ASM2. BUT this really messes with the origin and continuity AGAIN as Fox did with every X-Men/Wolverine film. What is up with Fox? Cant they just work with the material they have? I can see the director wanting to work with Jordan again too though. But seriously. Marvel, cast him as Luke Cage. There are plenty of genuine black heroes to pool from than by trying to compensate for the lack of them in film right now. So when someone goes to pick up a FF comic for the first time they will be like "Wait, he was black in the movie". At least Fury IS black in the Ultimateverse. I hope this is just a rumor and he will get a role in a non-Fox Marvel film.

I have no issues with this. It's a change, if it works they will look brilliant.  If it flops... then this will be one of the reasons people will point to that caused it. Skin color is skin color. Can the guy act? If you saw the 1992(?) version of the FF... that guy looked the part, but sucked as an actor.

CoolerKing 5/2/2013 9:15:17 AM

Calm down white people he didn't get the part yet. You have many other white heros to watch..It's Fantastic 4 who gives a rats dick anyway.

I don't care if they make Johnny black, but Sue needs to be the same. Don't complicate things too much, keep the focus on the story. On that note, the story had better be worth it all. I have little faith in Fox on that front...
