Judging from the latest photo revealed for Mark Wahlberg's upcoming Max Payne, his character will be incorporating that visual shooting theme that players will remember. A new pic, which you see by clicking on the one to the left, has appeared at USA Today. The adaptation of the best selling video game will also star Chris O'Donnell, Beau Bridges, Ludacris, Mila Kunis, Donal Logue and Amaury Nolasco. John Moore directed the film for 20th Century Fox, based on a screenplay by Beau Thorne.

Plot Summary: Based on the legendary, hard-hitting interactive video game, "Max Payne" tells the story of a maverick cop determined to track down those responsible for the brutal murder of his family and partner. Hell-bent on revenge, his obsessive investigation takes him on a nightmare journey into a dark underworld. As the mystery deepens, Max (Wahlberg) is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world and face an unthinkable betrayal.

Max Payne will hit theaters Oct. 17, 2008.

Sweet!!

Looks like the end of the year is setting up to be "psychos with guns out for vengeance time" with this and Punisher War Zone coming out 7 weeks later. Wow, I didn`t know Wayne Knight was cast as Microchip. Talk about perfect casting.

I'm pretty sure that Wayne Knight was cast. We spoke about it on our podcast briefly. As far as Max Payne goes, this does look pretty cool. I'm on an "Action movie" kick right now, so I've been pretty happy with what's been hitting theaters. Bring on the explosions! I miss those 80s action movies!

Looks good and let's hope they use the bullet time slow motion effect as well. You really can't tell with just a picture.

I still wish Timothy Olyphant could have been cast as Max, since he not only looks a lot like the game cahracter, but he also has a similar voice, and his work in Deadwood showed he was more than capable of the attitude. That said, I look forward to seeing what Wahlberg does with the role. I'll definite be in the theater.

I don't really see Olyphant as Max. Plus, he kinda seemed to phone in the Hitman role...that scene in the car with him and Olga Kurylenco was one of the worst acted scense I've ever seen in a "big budget" film.

To be fair, I've only played parts of the second Max Payne game, but I just feel that we needed an actor who was a little older and more weathered than Walberg or Olyphant. Not that I have any better suggestions though.

Never played the game, but Wahlberg always does good action-even in B-movies. I loved the Big Hit, and Shooter was an entertaining actioner. I'll catch it.

OH LOOK! It's a picture of the PG13 bastardazation of Max Payne, where he fights black vultures and other "enemies from beyond the natural world" even though there was no frakkin enemies from the natural world in the actual game. Yay! Can't wait.
