Mazzara for Shining Prequel

Really a Prequel?

By Robert T. Trate     April 12, 2013

I am all for original storytelling and a great idea. I’ll be honest with you though, a Shining Prequel sounds like a terrible idea. Do we really need to dive into what happened to the Overlook Hotel before Jack got there? Weren’t we given enough story? Regardless of what I think, or anyone else in the world, Warner Brothers has just green-lighted a sequel to the Stanley Kubrick film. reported the following:

“It appears that Stephen King’s beloved novel The Shining is all the rage at the moment.  King is set to release his sequel novel Doctor Sleep later this fall and the Shining-centric documentary Room 237 recently hit theaters, but now it appears that the story is headed to the big screen once again by way of a prequel.”

The man tapped for prequel duties is none other than former Walking Dead showrunner Glenn Mazzara. His work on the series was great. However, with a “Shining” sequel novel (titled “Doctor Sleep”) coming from original author Stephen King, why rush a prequel? Better source material is coming if you want to start the Shining all over again.

What do you think Maniacs? You never know, an Overlook Hotel TV series could be next?

Is it even a surprise....damm hollywood suits and their dollar signs with no respect to classics...

OK I agree. Why go for a prequel, especially if it isn't written by King himself, when an actual sequel is about to be published. You'd think they'd opt for an adaptation of an actual sequel.

Why wait until the Doctor Sleep is released and pay King more money when you can capitalize and make money asap.  Wait for new material or milk the hell out what you already have..

They will do it for the $$$$$$

Make a prequel... do a Shining remake.... make a the new sequel... New trilogy... if done right... lots and lots of $$$$$

I'll wait for a little more information and possibly the trailer before I completely check out...but I'd be lying if I didn't point out the fact that my hand is already on the Exit door.

would love to see how the twins got hacked up and the lady in the bath tub the bar tender and everyone else..why not? from another point of view this could be o.k.

I don't think it's a bad idea if the right person is doing the job, I would like to go back into that world again but I don't think the same kind of essence can be accomplished, the kind that Stanley Kubrick brought to the table when tackling this story...Still I agree wtih a few posts here, there are some things that I would like to witness th at took place before Jack took his turn at being nuts and blood hungry,,,Sure, Im in...

Of course it's about money for the Studios but if the right director is doing it, he is doing it for the love and passion of source material, it still can be a great movie but it balancing on a ledge at the moment and still could end up being crap, let's hope it's not the latter of the two for the sake of not only King and Stanley, but MYSELF...
