thanks for replying about the anime request!

good to see that others outside of my seemingly regular readership is getting in the game

I gotta say, "Full Metal Alchemist" was brilliant.

I managed to see a whole episode (after setting my VCR to record last night) and it'll probably be the first thing I go looking for on DVD.

What about this movie they seemed to have made for FMA?

Though I'll (obviously) watch the show first, is the movie simply a continuation of the story?

Or did they mess it up?

I keep my eyes out on amazon and ebay for stuff like this.

And thanks for the add...and try not to catch the madness.

It is, after all, contagious.

Actually the movie's excellent, they do continue the story, and as you'll see at the endof the series it's an important cntinuation, because the status quo changes for both of the brother, and some o the other characters. It'd be hard to allaborate without aspoiliing the end of the series, but you definitely should not watch the movie until you've seen the original series.

If you're interested in the 2-disc set I saw it on e-bay just now with a starting bid of 28.50 the basic difference is that on the second disc they add a csecond copy of he movie with three aditional commentary tracks which are pretty cool and offer good insight. Oherwise the single disc set has the moie in 5.1 english or Japanese and a making of featurette in Japanese with subtitles. And I saw a new copy on Amazon marketplace for $3.49.

Either way the ovie is awesome definitely lives up to the series. And at the end of the series you'll definitely want to know what happens next.

hey thanks for the ebay tip

I'll keep my eyes open...

wish I could just leap into the big shopping spree right now but I can't (yet)

but one day (and one day I promise to you Jeff @ Best Buy) I'm gonna go nuts just for the fun of it

can't right now though

although ebay would be more in my range these days...I've found great books on there (that normally run 20 - 25 dollars) for less than 5 dollars, in damned good shape, on witches and celtic shamanism....love those celtic shamans and druids

Yeah, I'm living shopping spree free myself right now.  just figured I'd throw the info out there.  That's cool about the celtic shaman and witch books on e-bay.  I love the internet fo that kind of stuff.

You know, Jarrod (our beloved news editor) accidentally inferred from my blog entries on Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (among others) that I was, in fact, female.

He'd read the blogs, but not the profile.

And then he did.

But that's okay.

I've never seen "The Last Starfighter." But I did put up all my explanations concerning the Starlight Guard and such up on the profile to counteract all the confusion you obviously fell into as well.

But that's okay as well.

The Starlight Guard is there to assist the few Sandmen in the town of Twilight Place. They appear as needed, and during the phases of the moon where its seen less and less. The full moon is a quiet night. The absence of a moon means all hell is breaking loose.

You get the idea.

And Hanso's gently riffing me on the notion of costuming, etc., but one day I will have to consider these things as the different members of The Guard wear specific types of robes: dark green, dark purple, and dark blue. This could easily look silly.

But, as for The Guard itself, for Twilight Place and so on (I added the town's name to keep from getting it confused with the book Twilight, and only heard of the book after I completed the script in 2007) it'll all make sense....hopefully in less than three years.

Ah madness. It's my constant companion.

Hey Jarrod, where'd you get that Altar of Doom any ways?

mbeckham1 1/23/2009 12:28:29 PM

Sounds very cool.  Very much like something I'd read or watch.

hey mbeckham...

so Mania keeps talking about this new incarnation of FullMetal Alchemist...

is it...any good? hell is it even showing here in America, and if so, have you seen it and what do you think of it in comparison to the original version that I've seen on...what is it, Cartoon Network?

I still haven't gotten a collection going yet....BUT I WILL. I also stumble across the FMA movie every so often while in my local Hastings.

I've got a birthday coming in a few months, so I'll probably go hog wild in the anime section at Best Buy this summer....everyone else's birthdays are, litterally in the spring, so it keeps me sucked dry and unable to do my own geek shopping.....
