After seven seasons, multiple cancellations, a few Direct to Video movies, and a channel change or three; Futurama is ending. Entertainment Weekly broke the news yesterday that the beloved animated series will end September 4th, 2013.

The series, which began on FOX in 1999 will finish with 140 episodes. The final 13 episodes, the second half of season 7, begin on Comedy Central on June 19th.

Producer David X. Cohen spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the end of the series.

“I felt like we were already in the bonus round on these last couple of seasons, so I can’t say I was devastated by the news,” Cohen told EW. “It was what I had expected two years earlier. At this point I keep a suitcase by my office door so I can be cancelled at a moment’s notice.”

Do you think this is really the end for Fry and Bender Maniacs? The show has ended and come back before.

Good news everyone!  . . . oh err, may be not.

And on my birthday!!

I think that if this is it, so be it. They've had a good run. If another channel picks them up, even better!

Hey, at least they are giving the show a good send off with a good ending. It is also ending on a high note which is good because I hate it when a show dies a slow painful death. Now if only they can make a show worthy of replacing Futurama. Come on people! Bring us something else that is just as hilarious.

I still have yet to see a new episode after the ressurection. I blame our network carrying it (Teletoon) and Comedy Central's handling of blu ray/dvd releases.

1) Teletoon got the new episodes but never knew when they aired.

2) The blu-ray sets are terrible. Released in seperate 13 episode packs instead of full seasons at a whopping $30-35 each. No thanks.

Oh well...maybe in the future, a massive box set will come out of all in glorious HD.

How is the producer talking like this is news that his show is ending. Sounds like they are substituting the word canceled with ending. Never really got into the show but the christmas episode with an evil Santa had me cracking up.

I like this show a lot but to be honest I'm more than happy with what's there already and catching them or reruns like I do with most my favorite shows

Bottom Line... they had a good run.  I hated to see them go the first time and I was excited to see the movies come out; It was like an unofficial 5th season.  I believe there are still stories to tell and I would love to see more.  Its definitely not for everyone, but i enjoyed it.  It'll be missed.
