Move over Tom Selleck, we may have a new Magnum P.I. very soon. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that actor Matthew McConaughey has been offered the part but he's still in the process of reading the script. Writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) penned the screenplay, based on the popular 80's television series. Imagine Entertainment and Brian Grazer plans to produce the feature film.

I don't think anyone can properly replace Tom Selleck as Magnum PI... Certainly not McConaughey. I don't know who'd be better, but he'd just look ridiculous in the 'stache.

Sure Tom Selleck can't truly be replaced as an 80's icon t.v. star but I think Mathew would be the best pick out of anyone in Hollywood...I also thing he does a mustache just fine...

I think he is a great choice.....and he doesn't need the moustache to make him Magnum, its the attitude.....I am also wondering, based on the writer/director, if the are going Brady Bunch style or Starsky and Hutch,,,,making it an action comdey? There is lots of room for comedy, based on the source material....I wonder who will play TC and Higgins?

Yet another movie where Matthew goes shirtless. Remember when he was a promising newcomer. Now he just a bland pretty boy in one forgettable movie after another.

They should've gone with Admiral William Adama, that man had a killer stache.

I think he can do it. I am not too concerned about the status of his mustache since the status of the mustache has greatly declined since back then and now you look more like a pedophile than macho with a big ole mustache (just think how funny Colin looked in the Miami Vice Movie with that pseudo mustache).

My question is......Why recast Selleck? for a guy in his 60's he still looks pretty much the same...Still sounds the same....hell he even grew back the stache after a few years of facially "going native". My first knee jerk reaction to Matthew M being cast was....Oh gawd...but, after thinking about it...Doesn't he live in a gulf stream trailer(or several of them) on a beach? I know that doesn't make him a more qualified actor than most, but, he does fit the lifestyle portrayed by Magnum. Overall, I think Matthew M's story in Hollywood is one of squandered talent and promise. As his movies over time have just gotten silly (there are always a few exceptions of course). Will this be another over the top stupid, unfunny, silly remake/re imagining as a comedy to bore the crap out of us with a fading has been pretty boy (although at his age It's getting harder and harder to call him a boy....(and yes, Brad Pitt, I'm talking about you too while I'm at it.) Or, Is there a chance that Hollywood can actually redo an 80's Icon that was actually a pretty damn good drama/comedy/mystery without it being covered in ten tons of cheese? Depends....Is the Ferrari 308 gt in this flick?...Let's be honest....It's the car....;)

This just it. McConaughey will not be able to take to role due to scheduling conflicts with a TV show he's doing. Harrison Ford has been cast instead.

I'd much rather see Tom Selleck but it looks like that ain't gonna happen.I think Vince Vaughn might make a good Magnum, too.
And I'm with Gutsmgee. Is this going to be done seriously, meaning in the same vein as the original, or are they gonna do another one of those tongue-in-cheek spoofs of it like the Starsky & Hutch movie.
No more spoofs please!
