It seems nothing will stop the newly coupled Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan from teaming up again after their Planet Terror effort. For the past year, they've been trying to get a remake of the cult classic Barbarella off the ground with McGowan set to play the lead character. Due to the WGA strike and rumors that the studio didn't like the budget, that film eventually fell back to development hell.

Now, USA Today is reporting that the duo will partner up for a revival of Robert E. Howard's Red Sonja franchise. The last we heard was that Millennium Films had the project on their fast-tracking list right alongside a Conan the Barbarian remake. At the time of the announcement,
David N. White was set to be the screenwriter.

Clearly the general public was clamoring for this film...

Its about time someone in Hollywood listened to the masses!

I don't know...Red Sonja has some good untapped potential. Hot chick in lead with sword play, Red head to boot! I am there. I even still like the first one. Have to pick up a cheap DVD of it for my list. It would have been great if Arnold back then was Conan for that one. I wonder why they did not? Probably copyright darn that.

Dazzler,

It was a licensing issue, for some reason the producers of the original could not get the rights to have Conan in their "Red Sonja" movie, bur if you read the Conan stuff they do meet.

Sounds good on my side. I hope it comes out great.

The only place Red Sonja and Conan met was the comics... Howard wrote her in 16th century France - so um... I don't think they met. Then hacks just wrote her into anything Conan. So I guess technically they met.

irascible- So you're saying the met without meeting at all? I get it.

If you're a Howard purist- then no. If you're satisfied with the hack writers saying "Hey, she's a Howard character, Arnold was in the movie, he played Conan - let's just change the writer's character and put her wherever we feel like it" then yah. I give up - I think I got across what I meant.

Anyway - if this marks a revival of REH's work I guess I'm for it.

I think the chances of an R rating from these two are pretty slim hanso.

Yeah right joey.

I don't know about this. It could turn out to be one of those cheesy Kevin Sorbo movies like 'Kull the Conquerer'. Man that was bad. If Rodriguez goes gritty with this and dark than it would be cool. I like the idea of a Red Sonja battling evil in a world like that. Kind of the beautiful beam of light in a cold dark place. Oh man, the original . . . is a closet favorite of mine.
