Sir Ian McKellen stopped by for a chat yesterday on the Richard and Judy chat program that airs on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. During his interview McKellen expressed his belief that the snafu over the film rights will eventually get solved and once that happens director Peter Jackson and he will sit down and discuss doing the project in earnest. McKellen wants to don his grey wizard hat again because he enjoyed playing the incarnation of Gandalf the Grey moreso than Gandalf the White who the actor called "a stick in the mud."
The rights over THE HOBBIT are split between MGM and New Line Cinema, but since Jackson will make KING KONG first for Universal Pictures, that should give both studios time enough to figure out how to solve things.
