He's been gone since 1993, but now the King of the rock-opera ballad, Meat Loaf, is back! It has been thirteen years since BAT OUT OF HELL II: BACK INTO HELL and now he's set to release BAT OUT OF HELL III: THE MONSTER IS LOOSE appropriately on Halloween 2006. This is the third and final installment of a trilogy that has spanned three decades. Buzz for this long awaited follow up album is already mounting after an unmastered version of the title track from the album "The Monster is Loose" was leaked during recording.

This animated short film introduces the final chapter in the Bat Out of Hell series. The animation is set to "The Monster is Loose" which was co-written by Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue,) John 5 of Marilyn Manson (guitarist for Marilyn Manson) and Bat Out of Hell producer and long time Meat Loaf collaborator, Desmond Child.

You can find the animated trailer here.

Don't get me wrong, I love Meat, but....Trilogy?! Doesn't that imply a story connecting all the songs together? (See: Saviour Machine's 'Legend') Not heard "The Monster Is Loose" yet, but frankly, between the title of the album ('Bat Out Of Hell III'), and the collaborators (Nikki Sixx, John 5), I think they should steal an album subtitle from The Seventy Sevens: "When Numbers Get Serious". Yeah, Steinman and Loaf are at eachother's throats again this album, only legally this time. I forget where I found it, but shortly after news of the album first popped up on Cinescape, I found a tracklisting for the new album, and if I recall, it had several Steinman compositions on it...not new compositions, mind you, but things which had been written/recorded a while ago, and are now being covered by Meat, which I'm sure will have them looked upon as the definitive versions. I do clearly remember seeing "Bad For Good" on the track list (which for anyone who doesn't know, was the title track to the album Meat and Steinman were working on to follow up the first Bat Out Of Hell, when Meat allegedly lost the ability to sing, and Steinman finished it as a solo album, which is actually pretty good -- Steinman's not got a bad voice.) Well, off to watch this trailer/listen to the song.

well, the small bit of song that's played (only makes up about half of a 2 minute video clip) sounds nothing like Meat Loaf....it actually sounds like Meat Loaf singing Crue's 'Wild Side' as performed by Manson. Definately not the typical Wagner-ian rock (if such a thing is "typical") i was hoping for. However, plenty stoked about seeing Brian May's name pop up in the "performances by" section; but still, Desmond Child's name sends shivers up my spine. I hope he's there to provide a late-80s Aerosmith production to the album with very minimal song writing, rather than lots of song writing and horribly slick pop production.
