Scoop Feedback:

January 21, 2004... In a sign that there's finally some forward movement on the long gestating sequel to MEET THE PARENTS, Dustin Hoffman has been cast as Ben Stiller's father in MEET THE FOCKERS. The sequel will see the parents of Stiller's character, Greg Focker, meeting the parents of their son's fiancee (played by Teri Polo). Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner will return to play Polo's parents.

As explained by Variety, the sequel will see the hyper-relaxed Fockers meet with the tightly-wound Byrneses. Worlds will collide, arguements will break out, and the resolve of the soon-to-be married couple will receive its ultimate test.

Universal Pictures wants to complete casting on the role of Stiller's mother (Stiller wants Barbra Streisand) shortly and is hoping for a March start for principal photography. A release date in December is likely.

February 24, 2004... As preparation continues on MEET THE FOCKERS, the sequel to MEET THE PARENTS, we were sent casting information for two roles the production wants to fill. It had been reported that the sequel may show us that Ben Stiller's character might have a son that his fiancee or her family doesn't know about. Well, it looks like that the rumor is true...

Monique is described as an overweight African-American woman in her 30s to early 40s. She was once the housekeeper for the Focker family but now owns her own catering successful company. The filmmakers are looking for an actress "good with comedy".

Frankie is described as the son of Ben Stiller's character and the African-American woman. They are looking for a mulatto teen actor between the ages of 13-16 years old. The most important part about Frankie's physical appearance is that he must have a strong resemblance to Ben Stiller.

MEET THE FOCKERS is pencilled in for release on December 22.

[Anonymous, we love ya.]

March 12, 2004... It looks like Ben Stiller may get his wish: Barbra Streisand is in negotiations to play Stiller's character's mother in MEET THE FOCKERS, the sequel to MEET THE PARENTS. First mentioned two months back when Dustin Hoffman was cast as Mr. Focker, Streisand is now reportedly in final talks to star in the comedy sequel. Reprising their roles as Stiller's parents-in-law will be Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner.

Filming is still on track to begin later this month, for an intended December 22 release. [Variety, The Hollywood Reporter.]

May 25, 2004... Universal Pictures has issued the first photo of the cast of their upcoming sequel to MEET THE PARENTS. Returning in MEET THE FOCKERS are stars Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo, and joining them are Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand as Stiller's parents.

MEET THE FOCKERS picks up after Greg Focker (Stiller) has met with his finacee's parents (De Niro, Danner) and been accepted into the family. Now Jack's fiancee Pam Byrnes (Polo) has to return the favor and meet Jack's folks (Hoffman, Streisand) -- but things get complicated when Pam's folks come along to meet their soon-to-be new in-laws. Unfortunately, when the ultra-relaxed Fockers meet the hyper-wound Byrneses, disaster soon follows.

Universal will release the film on December 22, 2004. [Universal Pictures.]
