I liked the X-Men comics as a kid but for the most part they were never my favourite characters (although I loved Wolverine!).  However, I still enjoyed all three of the X-Men movies (yes, even the third,  X-Men: The Last Stand, although I admit it could've been better) and look forward to this reboot of sorts whenever it comes out.  Yes, I also admit that I didn't care for Bryan Singer making changes to the costumes of the X-Men characters as well as watering down Anna Paquin's Rogue.  It's good to see that at least this director gets that right!

Honestly, I was very excited about the potential of "X-Men: First Class" until finding out that Bryan Singer was again involved in an X-Man movie. I know everyone loves this guy (not me), but he single handedly destroyed X-Men for me (I'm a Comic Book Fan First, Comic Book Movie Fan second). He made the X-Men movies at a time when "Comic Book Movies" were just using the characters and not the stories from the source material. He destroyed my live action X-Men hopes and dreams. Those movies were nothing more than wolverine advertisements (I don't care how popular they were, I hated them). Then Mr. Singer jumps ship on the third X-Man movie to go and frack up "Superman Returns". IMO Bryan Singer is no better than M. Night Shyamalan. Of course there has been a paradigm shift in regards to how comic book movies are made nowadays (mostly by Marvel) in that the source material is more respected than it previously had been. When "X-Men: First Class" was initially announced, it was assumed that this would be the first Marvel productions X-Man movie. Then Sony and 20th Century Fox (Spider-Man & X-men respectively) paid Marvel an "undisclosed" amount of money to hold onto said franchises. My internal red flags still hadn't gone up yet. That all changed when it was announced that Mr. Singer had been brought back into the fold; this time as an Executive Producer (which in this day & age translates to "Backseat Director"). Why call it "X-Men: First Class" if they're not even attempting to honor the source material? No Scott Summers, no Jean Grey. Are they serious? Just call it "Another Bryan Singer X-Man Movie" because that's what it is. It now HAS to establish the universe that BS (no pun intended) established in his movies. I'm somewhat shocked that Wolverine is not making an appearance in this movie because over at 20th Century Fox; they love them some Wolverine. Apparently, Wolverine IS the X-Men according to 20CF & BS. I wouldn't be surprised if by the time this movie hits theaters, not only will you see Wolverine in the movie, but the name will have changed also to "Wolverine's X-Men: First Class.

I am not a fan of Bryan Singer anymore askanison40.  After Superman Returns and the raping of the X-Men Bryan Singer can forget me as a fan of his for ever after.  Him and the execs at Fox can die of brain cancer.

It is too bad really because I really LOVED "The Usual Suspects".  It was really his best movie and he has never made one as good or getter than it since......

For the love of all that is Mutant and Holly please, some one please GET BRIAN SINGER AWAY FROM THE X-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The idea he is interested in doing the New Mutuants sends my stomach into horrid convulsions.  The guy has no clue on how to do superhero movies.  If Vaughn had done this with out him, I'm sure it would have been a great movie.  For those of you who are ignorant of the X-Men history, the Hellfire club ALWAYS dressed in a Victorian period style (even to this day, see current Uncanny issue where Sebastian still has his hair tied back in a bow), which you can see they did not adopt into this film, instead you have the Playboy mansion, CRAP.  Which points to the B.S. statement of uniforms being a "nod".  Who wants a fu*%ing nod, I want Havok in  black with the bullseye on the chest and the atom thing on his head.  This movie will probably have some fleeting cool effects,   but it will SUCK.  It will be garbage for the simple fact that they let Brian Singer have too much influence when he has only done one decent film (the Usual Suspects) in his career.  Who can only do drama, and has no understanding about action films, let alone comic book movies (when he directed the X-men movies he wouldn't allow the the actors to read the books, Hugh Jackman had an assistant sneak him some, which is why he nailed Wolvy).  At least Vaughn has let the actors get some background reading.

I feel the exact same way as you do. So much more could have been, should have been, and should be; done with the X-Men. I honestly don't feel that franchise will be done any justice until Marvel gets the rights back.

You know, as a huge fan of the X-Men from way back in the early 1980's this new X-Men movie makes me feel like Fox raped my sister or some sh*t.

I can take small continuity shifts like Spiderman having organic web shooters or Heimdall in Thor being acted by an African-American.  Those are tolerable to an extent.

But this new X-Men movie has crossed the line way to far to stomach at all.  The first X-Men movie was OK and fun.  The second less so but was still pretty good.  The third was pretty much crap.  The Wolverine movie can burn in the Pit of Hell.

This new X-Men movie is worse than all of the other put together.  They have beaten and raped the characters, continuity, and story lines of the X-Men then left them all for dead in an alley.

If you are a real fan of the X-Men join me in BOYCOTTING ANY new X-Men materials coming from Fox!

Oh and thanks for agreeing with me askanison40.  At least someone else besides violator feels the same way as I do.

The coolest picture is the teaser poster. Magneto looks horrible. Its like a costume a parent makes for their kid at Halloween but can't get quite right.  Emma Frost seems to be the only one, spot on. The shot with Xavier and Magnus playing chess is cool.

I understand what you are saying Wiseguy and yeah the ship has sailed but I just don't get why Fox couldn't do what Sony is doing with Spidey. Just fully reboot tghe franchise and fix it. If this is their way of "fixing " it. They may as well have gotten a bunch of retarded monkeys to write a script. I love X-men. Fox just keeps shitting on it.

Nice, I like Magneto's Helmet. Cuba sounds alright would be better if it was Muir Island though. Also like everyone says it does look like something from the BBC. LOL.

"Would you like some tea and crumpets Charles!!! Why of course, Earl Grey would be nice! Pahahahahaha.

Wiseguy 1/20/2011 3:44:43 PM

ponyboy, believe me my first option which I have voiced numerous times in the past was a complete reboot that would set the X-Men straight. I have always let it be known my dislike for Singer's take from casting, story, character  portrayal (Cyclops mainly) and the actual cast for some of these roles.

Having said that I'll be at the movies when this comes out. axia can sit this out by himself or with violator. And without calling "bullshit" outright I somehow doubt that they won't somehow manage to catch this at the theater.
