No Mel for Lethal Weapon 5

Not interested

Warner Bros may be planning to continue the Lethal Weapon series (as was announced back in 2011), but they'll be doing so without any involvement from Mel Gibson, after the troubled star revealed he would not be interested in doing a fifth movie.

"No," said Gibson, when asked about the possibility by ComingSoon. "I think the way things are going, they'll just remake those somehow. Though it's really tough to replace Danny [Glover]. He was so amazing in those things. It was a good gig for us. They really afforded me the opportunity to slow down and pick things and do things that really interested me."

One such project is Gibson's long-gestating Viking movie, Berserker, which the star continued to provide an update on. "I believe it's going forward," he confirmed. "I've talked to actors and stuff, and there are some good names attached who want to do it."

"I've got a great script," he continued. "And the idea's been batting around my head for years. And I couldn't find a way to make it work, because if you look at what Vikings did, they're pretty unsympathetic. And there's no point in doing Viking light. So I had to find a way to find devices and ways to make that work dramatically, intelligently and make it seem realistic."

And as was the case with The Passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto, the dialogue used will be something out of the ordinary. "I'd thought about that at one time," he said of the possibility of doing the film in Old Norse, "but then when you consider that English comes from the middle English language, it's not a big jump. I'll do something that's understandable for a modern audience. But it won't be the English they're used to."

I don't really think another Lethal Weapon movie is needed, but without Gibson and Glover, I have zero interest.

I would be interested in his Viking movie, beacuse just like Southpark said, "Say what you want about Mel Gibson, the son of a bitch knows story structure!"

I dont care if he knows story structure. I would not support that racist prick.

Props to MEL for saying NO.  Why? Like Leathal Weapon 4 sucked. Part 3 was eh.. two was the best and the original was 2nd.

I have enjoyed most Gibson movies. I don't see the point in denying myself a good movie experience because the actor/filmmaker has some bad social habits. This is especially so when I don't hear any details other than what reporters like to emphasize for a good story. This is not to dispute that he has done some crazy manic ranting and drinking. It's just that to the best of my knowledge he isn't the equivalent of Hitler, Dahmer or the theater killer. Many artists have some ideas I would not agree with, but I won't deny myself listening to Richard Wagner's Ride Of The Valkyries or any of his other music because he was strongly anti-semitic.

And I think a remake of Lethal Weapon is dumb. I much rather they follow the lead of the drunken, racist, sexist Australian who tries to make original works with each of his films.

I'm down for his Viking film. Sounds like he means to make it extremely violent and ruthless to which I say YIPPEE

I wish he'd gone ahead and made his The Maccabees film about the Jewish uprising that Hanukkah celebrates.

I'd pretty much see anything Mel directs as long as he  keeps making original stuff.

A Lethal Weapon without Mel and Danny is just plain stupid, and is just another pathetic attempt at making a cop-partner movie that will bomb. Dont do it WB! Focus on your stupid JL movie directed by Affleck, errr a.... Terrence Malick?.....err a.... Monkeyfoot??? wait who's directing this thing?? Gauleyboy?

Personally I wouldn't care if Mel Gibson owned a child-sweat shop managed by the KKK. He will Always be a 'god' to me cuz of Braveheart / William Wallace... haha. A viking movie by Mel sounds dope as hell. And with all his recent 'troubles', you KNOW he's gonna try and make the greatest movie he's ever done.

Gibson has the chops to put together an excellent movie about Vikings and any LW remake or reboot is nothing more than a money grab. There's nothing to improve on as 1 - 3 were very good and 4 is dead to me as it was dreadfully awful.

Mel rocks.. i would watch any movie he makes, the man is incredible at making films. i like that Racist pig.. though i hope he has a small roll in the up coming Mad Max, that would be so fucking cool..

I think Mel should hook up with Charlie Sheen and do a guest stint on "Anger Management" The only Viking movie I can think of off hand that I really loved was "The 13th Warrior". Any others worth checking out?

Thor, How to Train Your Dragon, Erik The Viking, Conan, When Harry Met Sally....

Yeah really not many great viking films. When Hollywood goes medieval they stick to central europe I guess
