Tim Burton's a world-renowned filmmaker, responsible for the likes of BATMAN, BEETLEJUICE and ED WOOD, but he's also an artist and an author. The uniquely dark and twisted Burton style filled his 1995 book THE MELANCHOLY DEATH OF OYSTER BOY & OTHER STORIES, an anthology of some 23 tales of kids who are a bit... different.
It's classic Burton stuff, and the many characters found in the book are now taking on a life of their own courtesy of Dark Horse Comics. A unique line of toys and other merchandise based on OYSTER BOY will be coming to light or digging into the dark, if you like this summer. David Scroggy, vice president of product development at Dark Horse, has big plans for the line.
"Within this book there's strange little stories about these strange little characters, and it's profusely illustrated by Tim Burton," says Scroggy. "So what we're doing is developing merchandise around this book and the characters within it."
