In Memory of Herbert Ross

Sad word has come of the passing of director Herbert Ross.
Ross, who began his career as a dancer and choreographer, moved into directing films by first handling musical sequences and dance numbers for 1954's CARMEN. He later went on to do the same for DOCTOR DOLITTLE (1967) and FUNNY GIRL (1968).
Among his notable directorial efforts were such films as GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS (1969), Woody Allen's PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM (1972), THE LAST OF SHIELA (1973), THE SUNSHINE BOYS (1975), THE SEVEN-PER-CENT SOLUTION (1976), THE TURNING POINT (1977), THE GOODBYE GIRL (1977), CALIFORNIA SUITE (1978), PENNIES FROM HEAVEN (1981), FOOTLOOSE (1984) and STEEL MAGNOLIAS (1989),
The cause of Ross's demised was not revealed. He was 74.
