What They Say
A chance meeting over the internet lands Minoru a night of hot sex with Akane, an older woman. But, for some reason she seems familiar to him, and when Minoru visits his mother, he realizes why Akane seems so familiar. They could be twins!

The Review!
A spam email turns into a series of very lucky sexual encounters for Minoru before it all crumbles down around him.

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its English language adaptation. The mix for both it and the included Japanese track are basic stereo mixes which sound decent but unexceptional. The English track diverges considerably from the Japanese track so there's a lot of dialogue in it that isn't in the Japanese track. There's little in terms of real directionality across the forward soundstage but there aren't any actual problems with either language track. We had no issues with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Originally released in 2005, the transfer for this series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. The source material for the show is in good condition. It has a lot of vibrant colors to it and they maintain a very good feel. Some of the blacks tend to shift to grey and get a bit fuzzy but it's not that often that it happens. The animation in general for the show is decent, better than some of the budget titles out there, but it's not an example of what some of the better shows look like. The transfer captures rather well what the end result is both in detail and clarity.

Due to this being a checkdisc, we did not have any packaging to review.

The menu uses the artwork from the cover of the two women in bondage and just their bras on which with the bright colors and general layout, looks quite good and vibrant here as a bit of the instrumental music plays along. Though just a static menu, it's one that's rather pleasing on the eyes except for the sideways print for the selections which is just a bit awkward. Access time are nice and fast and the layout is easy to navigate for what little is here and it also does correctly read our players' language presets.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Initially, Ménage a Twins was a title that had me not looking forward to it since it was plainly obvious from the cover artwork that this is yet another in a recent series of titles where the women have very oversized breasts. While they aren't exactly on the same level as some other notorious shows, they are still in the realm where they aren't something that I can find attractive and they tend to be a distraction when watching the show.

That said, I have to say that there's a really perverted twist to this series that made me look beyond the character designs and just laugh at the situation the male lead gets himself into. The show revolves around a young man named Minoru who lives with his mother, a head nurse at the local hospital where she's a respected person. Minoru's just going about life as normal, working on his laptop while he hears his female neighbor getting herself off next door as her husband is away on a trip, when a spam email hits his mailbox with the question about meeting. Seeing how it's from a woman named Akane, he ends up hitting yes before he knows it and she's apparently been messaging him wirelessly from outside his front door.

Before you know they've gotten into quite the situation and with a little bit of excitement added on top of the usual kinds of excitement, Minoru finds himself a steady girl who will call and meet him at various places, including sex toy hotels, for all kinds of encounters. But it gets even better for him when he gets invited to dinner next door and finds that the rather sexual young woman is newly pregnant and she uses that to get him even closer to her. Minoru finds himself in a bundle of sexual fun between the couple of women but a sequence of events in the past catches up with all of them and the dark secret that a pair of them carry really changes everything for him.

I mean, what do you do when you find out that your mother isn't your mother and that she raised you for her sister. And then you find out that the sister is the women who seduced you online and you just finished really showing her a good time. Why, take down the false mother and show her what you're really made of! She'd only been like a mother for all these years and what better way to repay her. I also loved the kind of justification that Minoru uses for it being okay to really sleep with her on a regular basis afterwards as he makes her his pet essentially. Since it turns out she was artificially inseminated with him, he's not "really" her son by blood. Huh? Yeah.

Barring the actual breast issues, the character designs for the characters are decent but not all that memorable. There isn't anything that really stands out about them but they don't go completely along the lines of standard types which is good. Minoru as the main male character is fairly standard as well though in terms of personality he does go down the usual path of becoming an angry young man once the revelations are made. The actual animation for the show is good though it does use a couple of standard tricks to stretch things out such as the repeated panning sequences which is annoying when you see it happen, especially since it was done heavily during a bad rape scene early on. There are a couple of corners cut like that but otherwise it's like a lot of things on this release in that it's pretty average.

In Summary:
Ménage a Twins is a title that was surprising just in how the storyline played out and the way it twisted a bit but in the long run it doesn't hide how much of an average show it is. What's worse is that the two episodes here don't bring the whole storyline to a conclusion, at least in how I look at it, so there's going to be some time before and if the next episode comes out. There are some interesting things done with the show but in the end, it's something where I think they balance out with the larger amount of average material but your mileage may vary, especially depending on how much you can deal with the larger breast sizes.
