Mendes for Bond #24

By Robert T. Trate     June 09, 2013

Sorry to be reporting this one a few days late Maniacs. It kept switching from probably, to maybe, to he is in talks, to it is going to be someone else. Well it is now official. Sam Mendes, the director of Bond #23 aka Skyfall aka the first billion dollar Bond, will direct Bond #24. What is more intriguing now is that Showbizz 411 is now reporting that Sam Mendes will also direct Bond #25. So does this mean we will get a two part story? Weren’t they building to something like that with the relaunch back in Casino Royale? Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t Quantum of Solace a direct follow up story of revenge after Casino Royale? Will we ever have the return of SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion)?

Now all we have to do is wait for Daniel Craig to sign on for these Bonds as well.

Awesome!!! Skyfall is one of my top 5 bond films (along with From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, License to Kill, and Casino Royal).  I hope Mendes directs another winner.

maybe he'll have a legacy of Bond Films like the eight done by Dir. John Glen.

I agree with your top picks Iracors and I would throw in Thunderball as well, but Skyfall is not up there as a great Bond film.  It was a great film, but only a good bond film.  Hope that makes sense.  I was actually hoping for Campbell to come back, but Mendes will do.

Skyfall is one of the best Bond films so this is great news.  I'm glad they didn't hand this back to Campbell; GL was a disaster and I don't think he has it anymore as a director.

After the end of Skyfall, I think the Bond-iverse will settle into more familiar territory.  I understand what you mean almostunbiased.  If Mendes is on through #25, maybe we'll get a complete story ala Nolan/Batman.  Although I will say I'd like a tiny bit less realism (better gadgets, more over the top action) than the previous three, but only a bit.  Let's not get into Die Another Day territory (invisible Aston Martin, back seat driving by remote control) but maybe From Russia With Love/Goldfinger-land (where's my jet-pack?).

Always down for more Bourne eh I mean Bond

Skyfall was my least favorite of the Daniel Craig Bond films... it just didn't feel like a Bond movie at all. Casino Royale was one of, if not my most favorite Bond movies.

Craig was signed on to these back around the release of Skyfall, he signed for 2 more.  A director was really all they were lacking to get the next one rolling, they want it on screens by next fall.

You  cant blame the director for Skyfalls weak story , its the writers.

Casino Royale made me a fan of James Bond and I think Skyfall was well written.  It was a personal story that seemed to capture the spirit of the books.
