Metal Gear Solid's creator, Hideo Kojima, has released a few interesting quotes regarding a big screen adaption of the popular video game.

Kojima confirmed the movie was being made, saying: "We're going to do it as a movie. A Hollywood movie" He later added, "I can't say when yet".

The video game follows soldiers who're protecting hostages and a nuclear weapon while trying to take back a military base captured by genetically enhanced soldiers.

"I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid," said Kojima. "It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement. False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood".

No word yet on who the party is.

So I guess we're all going to forget that there were at least two games (that I know of) that preceded “Metal Gear Solid?” Let's also forget that the “Solid” games (I have yet to play the original two) have generally poorly executed storylines and cutscenes that simply plunder (and water down) popular cinematic trends (use of John Woo-like slo-mo, Michael Bay-like overdrama, Matrix-like bullet ripples) without offering much in return. If Metal Gear Solid had been a movie and not a video game, critics would have lambasted it as being typical overblown Hollywood drivel. The fact that so many gamers believe that Metal Gear Solid is one of the greatest stories ever told is part of the reason that there are so many non-gamers who are justified in their belief that video games are not art and not worthwhile. It's a medium that still has a lot of maturing to do, so say the least. I just hope the movie can live up to the story's potential, because, sloppy execution aside, the actual stories of the "Solid" games did have some good ideas. I really hope that they can find filmmakers who understand the games’ storytelling and cinematic weaknesses while realizing the potential strength in their ideas.

Shocker. A video game being adapted to be a big screen crap-fest.

Like Silent Hill I am sure Metal Gear will be a good movie. Of course everyone did not like silent hill but those who understand it loved it. If they stay true to the game the gamers will love it. It seems lately that with the right people video game movies can be done properly. The gamers not the critics are the true judge of video game movies. So bring on MGS I can't wait. Maybe Viggo Mortenson could be Snake he hasn't done anything good lately.

If they give Hugh Jackman the part, I just might have hope for this.

DragonRift, if they put Jackman in this part, I'll be pissed... he has the perfect chance for a Weapon X series with the Wolverine spinoff from X-Men. I'll be even more tweeked if they give to freakin' Harrison Ford... to damn old to be pulling the action off... my grandfather doesn't move like that. What about Billy Crudip? Anyone? I'm open and interested to suggestion on who you see in this part. Could be interesting and has the potential to grow legs and be something good.

I always thought Russell Crowe would make a good Solid Snake.

Isn't Uwe Boll going to direct this? I thought he had a movie like this on his line up of fuck ups....

Good news, I looked it up on the IMDB and it is Far Cry that he has on his Death row. Well, not good news to far cry or the fans.

I love this type of thing, and yet I couldn't care less about this movie. Why is that?

Ahh, I knew someone would mention Boll. Its only a matter of time.
And not for nothing, but why should the video game medium mature? I mean, I thought the main reason video games were created were for kids to play. I know its a huge multi billion dollar business, but it just seems that we as adults continue to encroach on things that were meant for youth enjoyment, as soon as we realize its going to make us rich. I`m only in my 20`s and still love to play video games , but like 15 years ago, I could never imagine my older cousins picking up a Genesis controller to play. The demographic for gaming has totally changed. Okay, I kind of forgot my point, but it was a good one. oh well.
