FOUND HIM!!!
You are absolutely right, SC. No idea how they can do this, but I guess we'll see if there's any creativity left in Hollywood. I mean, they've made Battleship look relatively interesting.

If Walden Media acquires the rights to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and wants Jennifer Lopez to star, it goes without saying that some studio needs to turn Where's Waldo? into a live-action family adventure, right? That's correct, with the one property being optioned over the weekend, MGM has annouced their own plans to bring the Where's Waldo property onto the silver screen in an adventure-type scenario. MGM's President of Motion Picture Group Jonathan Glickman today announced that the studio has secured feature film rights to bring Classic Media's "Where's Waldo?" to the big screen in a live-action family adventure.
Created by Martin Handford and first published in 1987, "Where's Waldo?" is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. With more than 55 million books sold worldwide from New York to Sydney to London to Tokyo, "Where's Waldo?" books are available in more than thirty-eight countries and have been translated into more than thirty languages. "Where's Waldo?" has also been spotted in gaming, selling more than 4.6+ million Apps for iPhone and iPad.
"We are thrilled to be bringing the search for Waldo to the big screen. Along with our partners at Classic Media, we look forward to making a worldwide adventure that will appeal to 'Where's Waldo?' fans of all ages," Glickman said.
"Waldo is the most searched-for character in the world," said Eric Ellenbogen, co-CEO, Classic Media. "With thanks to MGM, fans everywhere will find Waldo in movie theaters with his motion picture debut."
MGM's Cassidy Lange, Vice President, Production, will oversee the project for the studio with Ellenbogen and Handford's business partner Mike Gornall serving as Executive Producers.
Feel free to discuss it down below.

I have no idea what kind of story they can do to even make this interesting, but I do forsee a ton of long drawnout overhead camera shots
It seems the logical step for Hollywood. After going through superhero comics, they went to games such as Battleship and upcoming Monopoly and Candyland (still waiting on Hungry Hungry Hippos). The natural next step is other well-known game characters. Since Waldo is internationally known that makes the potential audience bigger. They've also announced JLo doing Carmen Sandiego.
If they have a good story to tell, and can somehow attach it to a brand name like Waldo, then I'm fine with it. When I heard they were making a Battleship movie, I thought that was a load of crap. Later, I saw what appeared to be a trailer for an awesome new sci-fi move that I wanted to see... I was shocked at the end when I saw that Battleship logo ficker across the screen. I am definitely intrigued. It looks like a good sci-fi flick, happens to have a battleship in it, so I don't care if they attach the brand name to it as long as the story is good.
That being said, I think it is a heck of a lot easier to tell a story involving a battleship than of a nerd trying to blend into the background. This will probably be lame, but I'll at least wait for a trailer. :)
crazy idea.....waldo is some sort of thief and of course all of the world is searching for him and his partners....the wizard the dog and all. give the movie to the farrelly brothers and let the laughs ensue
When you get a property like Battleship, Asteroids, Monopoly or Waldo you really have carte blanche to do whatever you want. As long as the Battleship film has something to do with naval warefare, Asteroid has something to do with blasting asteroids, Monopoly takes place in Atlantic City and Waldo has a guy in a red and white striped sweater in it, you could do what you want and who could call your wrong?
If you did, say, a Zelda movie there are characters and a basic plot you'd have to service. But these basic properties, the sky's the limit.
I envision a spy-type comedy/drama. Waldo is some patsy who doesn't realize he's holding something everybody wants and all the alphabets are getting in each others way trying to find him.
a kid gets lost in new york city wearing waldo's favorite outfit and everyone is trying to find him. its about the only thing worth doing in a movie- bleh- At least carmen sandiego has a halfway decent plot to work with
Huh...boggles my mind how they'll make a movie about a sweater, a matching hat and a pair of glasses. No story going in...see, THIS is what Michael Bay was born to do!
