MGM announced today that the Stargate franchise would be adding two feature films to it's library.

Titled Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum, the movies will both be made available to the television universe and home entertainment marketplace by MGM.

"Stargate SG-1 is to MGM Television what the James Bond, Pink Panther and the Rocky franchises are to our feature film unit," said Senior Executive Charles Cohen. "We are committed to continuing to release new SG-1 content and its Stargate Atlantis spin-off, and we're also steadfast in our dedication to extending the franchise. Stargate is an indelible brand for MGM and we will support it well into the future."

Stargate: The Ark of Truth will bring a conclusion to the primary storyline of the past two seasons of the SG-1 television series. In the film, SG-1 searches for an Ancient artifact which they hope can defeat the armies of the Ori, they learn more Ori ships are about to be sent through the supergate to launch a final assault on Earth. Daniel discovers that the artifact, the Ark of Truth, may be in the Ori home galaxy, and SG-1 embarks aboard the Odyssey to find it, and pre-empt the attack. The IOA has a plan of their own and SG-1 ends up in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.

In Stargate: Continuum, SG-1 attends the execution of Ba'al, the last of the goa'uld system lords, Teal'c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter, Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what's happened, a fleet of goa'uld motherships arrives in orbit, led by Ba'al, his queen, Katesh, (Vala) and his first prime, Teal'c. SG-1 must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the goa'uld.

KJ's Take:  If you are a fan of the Stargate universe then this news should make your day.  The movies were announced a while back, but regardless, this is great news.

I like Stargate SG1 a lot. It is one of the few TV shows based on a movie that have succeeded (MASH and Buffy The Vampire Slayer are the only other ones that spring to mind). I look forward to these concluding movies. It probably is time for Stargate to leave the air after 10 seasons. A show can only go so long before you get tired of it.

can we get james spader involved again? theres gotta be some way to get that character back into the story....

Sweet, I hope they have more of a budget than just ONE episode of the series.

If you are a fan at all of the show, then you should already have known this piece of news for 2 to 3 months. However, the piece about the titles and the more detailed plot synopsis is fairly new, but is still a couple of days old.

Perono49, James Spader's character has always been involved in the storyline of SG-1. The character of Dr. Daniel Jackson has been a major character since the show started 10 years ago. Like Kurt Russell, Spader's part was recast for the series.

What is the "IOA"?

And the second movie still sounds like crap. Another time travel thing that sounds just like the season 8 finale.

The IOA is the International Oversight Advisory board or committee. They are basically a government watchdog type organization that oversees the actions at Stargate Command.

Ohhh thanks.

So this sentence.....
The IOA has a plan of their own and SG-1 ends up in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.
...is pretty much a ly? The IOA isn't powerful at all, unless they have teamed up with the bad guys..... again.

Good news indeed!

bdd, the sentence may be a lie, but I think it is just a poorly written sentence.

It probably means that the IOA have some plan that forces SG-1 into some sort of confrontation. The IOA usually comes into the storyline and does something that the folks that the SGC don't agree with, but they have to because they work for all the nations involved with the Stargate program and have to deal with every nation's different "interests."

My guess for the two enemies would have to be SG-1 versus the Ori and Ba'al. It could be the Lucian Alliance or even the Free Jaffa rather than Ba'al, but if the 2nd movie starts with Ba'al's execution, I'd have to guess he'll play a role in the first film too.

So does this mean that MGM will release the movies not just on DVD, but they will air on the Sci-Fi channel, like Farscape:The Peacekeeer Wars did? That would be a great way to end the show. I hope that O'Neill plays a role in these two movies. It would suck not to have him in the finale.
