Michael Bay to make "2012: The War for Souls"

According to TMZ.com, Michael Bay has signed on to produce and possibly direct the upcoming adaptation of the sci-fi novel, 2012: The War for Souls.

There are next to no details on the book available online, but TMZ had this to say regarding a possible plot theme:

Apparently, 2012 will be a big year for planet Earth, at least according to many folk traditions: 2012 is supposedly to be a year of either great spiritual transformation -- or apocalypse. The Mayan calendar held that it would be a time when the existing world order would be reversed. Nostradamus forecasted that a rather large comet would rudely arrive on Earth's doorstep no later than 2012. The Roman Catholic Saint Malachy predicted that in 2012, the last Pope would arrive, triggering Judgment Day. And in both "The X Files" and amongst certain UFO theorists, 2012 is the year aliens invade Earth. Even regular, non-nutty scientists also speculate that in 2012 a polar reversal will take place on Earth, and that once the earth starts rotating in the opposite direction, natural disasters of unknown proportions may occur.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci may write the script, but other than that, not much is known at this time.

KJ's Take: Let's see if this makes sense.  I like Bay, and I enjoyed The Island (which I will use as comparison due to semi-similar themes).  Yet, I didn't love The Island.  It was a solid B to B+ action film with little to no depth, and while I think that is totally fine for a film like Transformers ... a story following the theme above damn sure better have more depth than The Island did or it's heading right toward it's own apocalypse.

Please stop posting the same shit over and over or i will be forced to kick your ass. Not enough info here... will wait and see. As far as 2012, I hope with all this upheaval and polar revearsal crap that dogs and cats can finally bury their differences and start mating.

Well, seeing as Michael Bay likes blowing things up, this could be fun. BRING ON THE MASS DESTRUCTION!!! WoohOOoo!

Yeah, I don`t like Bay but I don`t go to his movies for depth or introspection. I go because he loves to blow shit up. If I want depth, I go see a Michel Gondry flick. Bay does great mind numbing Mass Destruction action. So this sounds good as far as that goes.

Oh god, more idiotic reasons for people to actually believe this crap. It's bad enough that there are gullible, stupid people out there who believe the world is going to end in 2012, but now let's make a movie to perpetuate the untrue myth, to scare even more gullible people.

Kevn, people believe in the bible and the Koran and that stuff is all bogus too, so what is the harm of making a movie about this. At least it seems more interesting than the bible. And if it is an end of the world movie, Bay will be in his glory blowing shit up left and right, and i know I will be there for that. And I agree with Ponyboy,,,,you don't see his movies for story, you see them for epic shots and bad ass action.

I'm a huge Bay fan, because his movies entertain. I know that when I plunk down my $8 I'm going to have fun for two hours. Although there's not much info about the movie above, it would seem like this would be right up Bay's alley if it has to do with "end of the world as we known it" subject mattre. Bay's a master of effects and iconic imagery. The one sheet will probably have a picture of the earth, some fire and haunting words about the end is here.

Whiskey, if you want to comment on the film go ahead but don't go calling religious texts that 50% of the world believe in bogus. It's just ignorant and not cool.

ddiaz28, if whiskey wants to say that what is in the bible and Koran are bogus, what`s the problem? How is that ignorant? Its his opinion. You have one, so who cares.
Don`t turn this into some stupid religious issue. Besides, he is right. There are things in many religious texts that most people realize didn`t actually happen and that they are just more parables from which to learn from.
So stop jumping on people because they may not believe what you believe!!
