Michael Bay's "2012: The War for Souls" gets a plot

The Hollywood Reporter ran a story today announcing the new Michael Bay film we told you about last week titled 2012: The War for Souls. HR had a bit of new information to report, including an updated plot synopsis.

The film will reportedly center on an academic researcher who discovers that multiple versions of Earth co-exist in different dimensions, but all are threatened by an apocalypse to occur in 2012 prophesied by the ancient Mayans. By opening a portal into a parallel universe, he makes contact with his double to stop the prophecy from being fulfilled.

"The idea of a man teaming up with himself to solve a cosmic mystery was way too good for us to pass up," producer Alex Kurtzman said.

The film is currently looking for a screenwriter.

KJ's Take: Sounds similar to Stargate in premise, but not story. One thing's for sure, with Bay directing things are gonna get blown up.

I'm a mark for Bay's movies, so I know I'll see this one. Bay's movies never fail to entertain me.

Tkay, that must be a typo.

Yeah things are definitely going to blow up. I don`t know if I like the plot, as far as the parallel universes go, because I have seen it too many times and done well mind you, in Stargate. They have done like 20 different eps on this same situation. I`m just no sure what they can show me that I haven`t already seen, except for it being on the big screen.

This reminds me of "The One" with the mutliple people joining up instead of fighting each other. It seems very complicated.

Yay! I was wondering when they were going to make a movie version of Sliders. That series was really good and the.....this isn't the Sliders movie? Oh, nevermind then.

KJ how dumb can you be? It sounds NOTHING like Stargate and everything like Sliders.

It dounds like a really bad movie to me. And I thought this movie was going to be about a "natural disaster".
