We finally have the word on which Ant-Man Paul Rudd will play. Rudd will be playing Scott Lang. We know this because Michael Douglass has been cast as the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. That’s right, Academy Award-winner Michael Douglas will play Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.

Marvel Uber Producer, Kevin Feige had this to say about the decision: "With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

Yet even more was revealed about this decision on Superherohype.com and how the Ant-Man mythology will play out: “The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both. Is to have a film that basically is about Henry Pym and Scott Lang, so you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60′s, in sort of “Tales to Astonish” mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.”

Well when they show Douglas in the 60's as Ant-Man I guess they can use the same technology they used with Jeff Bridges in Tron when they made Clu.

Too early to tell how this will play out. This single detail is not enough to pass judgement on the film.

The intrigue for this movie is raised by casting Douglas and the way Marvel is handling this. Very, very cool.

Love Douglas..."great actor",but this news kinda annoys me.How can they do a movie in the marvel universe where henry pym has supposedly already been around since the 60's& has been ant-man & yet no mention of him in the avengers or any other movie that's in this supposed continuity. Not only that but pym deserves more due than what they're suggesting here.Unless this movie takes place in the future which is even more annoying

I understand what you're saying @Tommygunner9 but with that logic, how  would they bring ANY character into the picture such as Black Panther?  Do they need to mention every character in the Marvelverse before they bring them in to the picture?  Its not meant to be a strict retelling.  I think this will work, whats great about this is the fact that they DON'T have to waste time trying to recreate the comics verbatim.

There are just WAAAAAY too many stories, backstories, forestories, sidestories to do it perfectly lol

It's a lot easier to do.

The Ant Man project could have been a top secret one. Nobody would know except for high ranking govt officials.  They could even link Howard Stark to Hank Pym/

Marvel has been attracting huge talent for a few years now and this casting fits in with the grandslam castings of the last few years.

Brilliant, just brilliant!!

There was a throwaway line on MAoS about certain individuals being on SHIELD's radar.  I think the line was about there being no clairvoyants that they knew of.  Perhaps Pym has been around since the 60s and was Ant-Man, but he kept his face out of the public eye.  Which, quite frankly, could have been easily accomplished since he can shrink to the size of an ant.  SHIELD has only had to deal with public supers since Stark decided to hold that press conference.

I think Lang's story would make for a better movie (man steals technology to save daughter) than Pym's (obsessed super-scientist develops particles to allow him to shrink or grow and abuses his wife).  They may have a hard time reconciling the fact we haven't heard of Pym Particles because you know SHIELD would be using and abusing that technology all the time.

I'm okay with Hank Pym being Ant-Man in the past. Like ElBaz said, link him to the older charachters like Howard Stark.  This could open up an Invaders story line. Its totally possible for these characters to exist outside the public knowledge.  Especially someone who's main power is to shrink down to sub atomic levels.  Giant-Man is a little harder to hide, but maybe thats how Scott LAng will get on the Avengers & Shields radar.  Having Pym already be an established Ant-Man, makes me feel better about this.

This is still pretty good. Yes, they are deviating from the source (Pym being a founding Avengers member) but at least they are not radically changing everything like say Scott Lang inviting the shrinking formula.

All I have to think of is Angel (with butterfly wings), Darwin and Havok (who is supposed to be Cyclops' brother) as the founding X-men members....groan....

Let's not forget Juggernaut being a mutant and many more origin atrocities., like the rumoured Wonder Woman = kryptonian one.

This is decent. Not what diehard Marvel fans wanted but still acceptable.

I like Rudd and Douglas,

I still think they should cast Zeta Jones as Wasp. Could be Pym's ex plus she is young enough to be part of this new generation of heroes.
