Weeeeeell, looks like Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, The Authority, et kicking-the-shit-out-of-the-foundations-brilliant cetera) is a fellow fan of the Reznor.

'ave to say I'm surprised he likes it.  And yet I'm not.

(what with his being Mr. I-listen-to-bands-you've-never-heard-of-they're-so-obscure-even-the-band-members-haven't-heard-of-themselves!)

Anyway, Ellis pointed this out, it's a listening port for the ENTIRE new NIN CD "Year Zero"

Legit too. As in not bootlegged or illegal.  Traced it back to NIN's website, which was far less onerous than tracing the hidden Year Zero related stuff around the net and yet faaaaar too obvious in light of that.

(he means you can get to it from the NIN website's front page -Ed)

Yeah, what kind of hide is that?

All 16 tracks are there for fellow NIN'ite advance-release listening pleasure.

(or Pain - Ed)

Probably only Jakester and I give an excrement, but that's alright.

Bring on April 17th, I've got my jugular primed for CD injection.

If so inclined, listen 'ere:

Enjoy,
(or don't - Ed)

I think the stream has been running since yesterday, but it was pointed out to me in the YZ thread in the forums. I've been listening to it all frigging day, but didn't blog about it because of some personal junk going on (poke around the forums and you'll find out), but while I was in the office, I had this bad boy streaming, and it is frigging amazing.

There are some people who are pissed about album spoilers (but they play the ARG, so go fig), and if you're one of those fuckheads, stop reading right now

The album will have a thermachrome coating on it that will change when you touch it. Now...I've also got something that changes when you touch it, but it's not a CD case...

Anyway, I'm really jazzed about Year Zero. And now I'm just waiting for Marillion's new one, "Somewhere Else" to drop in my mailbox, and I'll be all set.

Everyone else drinks the fucking water.

Capital g is one fucking awesome tune. Actually, the entire album is fantastic. I think it's Trent's best work overall.

I mean, TDS and The Fragile are genius works, don't get me wrong, but YZ is genius AND it's accessible. The fact that it's less introverted and more political and global-minded are also big plusses.

And people, if you have at least a passing familarity with the ARG, it will help your enjoyment of the disc all the more.

Sure, art is always open to interpretation by others, and if you find something in a work of art that wasn't intended by its author that doesn't mean that it's not a valid interpretation. However, if you have a sense of the inspiration for the work, you will get a truer appreciation of what its author intended.

And if that doesn't work, I've got something in my pants that you can suck. No really, I could really go for a good bj.

Spoken like a true fellow strutalomaniac. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Gawd love ya Jakester.

Anyway, the link kept cuttin out before I could stream-jack it with audacity, so I've been holding off reviewing it until I picked up the CD itself. As usual it was properly priced, so I had no anti-compunction against paying for it.

Which I did today.

I've been injectin it directly into my cerebral cortex since.

I agree, Capital G kicks scrotum.

Trifecta Tracks that result in few billion synapses firing over 'ere at MaelstromHQ: The Great Destroyer, In This Twilight, Another Version of the Truth.

and Zero-Sum.

(making for a total of 5 in his trifecta - Ed)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Nominally, I like to pick faves based on critical assessment -combined- with which tracks I've played the most, for a more rounded personal review, but at this point there are two problems with that:

1. This is a high-concept themed CD, ergo it's difficult to pull out singles when you're enjoying the whole package from beginning to end.

2. it's too early (for me) to pick faves based on replay factor, but if I had to guess based on the itch, I'd go with "In This Twilight" as fave track.

Subject to right click repeat amendment. Where applicable.

P.S: The CD's thermal coating is cool, I've just written the binary down, ran a google search for a binary decoder, and found a binary to ascii decoder here

http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php

it translates as: exterminal.ne(square figure)

So I'm jumpin over to exterminal.net

Bingo.

It's a website.

Still loading, must be a heavy bandwidth page, no idea what's there yet.

I agree -- the whole package is amazing and helps supplement the music and concepts of the disc. However, to really appreciate the music, having at least a passing knowledge of the game is needed. It just significantly enriches the experience and the music. I think that Trent has outdone hiself with this release, and I would ask that if you've downloaded the music for free and like it (not you, Laughing Boy), then please buy the album and/or go to a show. Trent, despite being a major star, is not rich, and if we, his fans, would like to see him continue to produce quality music and exceptional experiences like the Year Zero ARG, then we need to show him financial support
