MICRONAUTS Comics Next Year

Josh Blaylock, who masterminded the return of G.I. JOE to comic books this year, announced at the Mid-Ohio-Con Saturday that he will be publishing MICRONAUTS comic books next year.
Blaylock also announced a G.I. JOE: BATTLE FILES mini-series and firmed up the ongoing title's monthly status.
In making the MICRONAUTS announcement at a panel, Blaylock unveiled a promotional piece by G.I. JOE artist Steve Kurth.
Like G.I. JOE, MICRONAUTS will be published through Image Comics.
"Jim Valentino at Image is a big MICRONAUTS fan," Blaylock says. "So he's pretty happy about this."
The series will probably start next summer. Blaylock says he had no announcements on the creative team, although Kurth will not be involved as he continues as the monthly artist on G.I. JOE. "We're real close," Blaylock says of an announcement on the creators.
Asked if he was interested in some way using Michael Golden, who worked on MICRONAUTS at Marvel, Blaylock says, "Anybody who knows him, let him know. He's on our list."
Marvel owns characters who appeared in the previous series, including Bug, Marionette and Arcturus Rann. Those characters will not be in the new series.
"MICRONAUTS is different that G.I. JOE because I can't pick up continuity," Blaylock says. "I've been telling people is like the Marky Mark version of the PLANET OF THE APES.
"The old MICRONAUTS was so tied into the Marvel Universe. We might have to change some names and get rid of some characters - or have something similar. There's nothing to say we can't have a race of insectoid people."
G.I. JOE: BATTLE FILES, due to start in late spring, will be three issues in a who's who format. Blayock says each issue will likely be 48 pages in a prestige format. The first issue will focus on the Joes, the second issue on the Cobras and the third issue on vehicles and tech.
Art for the book will be by Blaylock, Kurth, Tim Seeley and Eric Wolfe Hanson. It will be designed by Mike Norton.
