While creator-producer David Milch didn't enjoy success for his last HBO series "John From Cincinnati", the producer received critical success for his series "NYPD Blue" and a fan following for "Deadwood". The latest news from Variety confirms Milch heading back to his roots with a new cop drama pilot for HBO.

Plot Concept:
"Last of the Ninth," a cop drama set in Gotham circa 1972, revolves around a younger detective just back from the Vietnam War and his mentor relationship with an older detective; the younger detective goes undercover. Milch is executive producing with his longtime collaborator and former police gumshoe Bill Clark.

HBO...You Ass Holes! What ever happen to the 2 part Deadwood finale we were suppose to get? On a liter note and totaly different subject all together, John Adams was excellent, just mind blowing and really well done thus far...
As for Milch and his new Cop Drama, I'm there...I love this guys writing, especially his dialog...Now bring us the finale of Deadwood damn it!

I was wondering if this show would be picked up, because I'd heard about it a while ago. I've always been a fan of NYPD Blue, so I'm interested in seeing this show, too. Maybe they'll get James Gandolfini to play the older detective. He's played cops before in movies, so that wouldn't be too far fetched.

HBO should do another gangsta show.

Set it in New York or Chicago and in the old school mafia years.
