Millar Hints Sentinels

For X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Update

By Robert T. Trate     October 25, 2012
Source: Unleashthefanboy.com

When the news was announced that the follow up to X-Men: First Class would involve the Days of Future Past story line, X-Fans breathed a sigh of relief. Marvel and Fox now have the chance to wipe away the bad X-Men movies (namely X-Men: The Last Stand) and bridge the two different time lines/ movies together.

Since Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, “Superman: Red Son”) has become the creative consultant on the X-Men movies at Fox, he recently gave us this update on the next X- Film:

“[Matthew] Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past….(it’s) X-Men meets The Terminator. You’ve got robots, you’ve got time travel, you’ve got superheroes – it’s got everything in one film. He also said that it is “no spoiler on [his] part” to say that the film goes into an apocalyptic future. Cost-wise it’s going to go up, and ambitious-wise it’s gone up. But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughn made Kick-Ass for $28 million.”

With Kitty Pryde already slated to be the time traveling X-Man who else will we see in cameo and feature length roles?

Thanks to DarthoftheDead for the submission.

Well, at least this flick got Sentinel's going for it, lol!

Speaking of Sentinel's, anybody interested in the 19 '' Sentinels from Hasbro should go look in their local "Ross" store (or equivalent) cause I found 3, count em, 3 of the "Classic" Sentinel's there for 25 buck's, X-mas came early for me, lol!!!

Millar is well known for hollow hype so I'll take his enthusiasm with a grain of salt.  While First Class was probably the best X film on a quality scale, it obviously ignores source material completely.  I am concerned that Vaughn will take the same liberty when tackling one of the most revered and original storylines in comics.  I really hope I'm wrong though, I want to enjoy this movie.

Considering the way First Class COMPLETELY p!$$ed all over the source material, I can imagine the plot being something like this:

In an apolocalyptic futuer, where mutants are hunted, one woman, Kitty Pride, goes back in time to get help from her fellow mutants across the timestream.  However, the time machine sends only her mind back and imprisions it in the body of a 63 year old janitor.  As this janitor frantically tries to convice people he is a she and that she is from the future, we meet the X-men: The Human Carpet, Stink Bomb, and the Terrible Talking Turnip.  Along with their anti-hero buddy, Wolverine, can they solve the mystery of the Janitor from the Future and return the Days of Future Past to the Weeks of Future Present???

This movie has fuster cluck written all over it.

I've bashed on Fox's Xmen more than enough, but man... all I wanna say is having sentinel fights without the proper Xmen is just wrong. Totally wrong. When I think about the classic Xmen vs Sentinel fights, i think of Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, Jean Grey, Archangel, Iceman etc. So I really hope they dont screw this up again by having weird, boring irrelevent characters in this. I really really hope they somehow get the proper characters in there / reboot the timeline somehow. Although imagining Magneto getting his hands on some Sentinels fills me with some delight, Idk....Im just over it..... im just sad now.  =T

Given these films "reverence" for the source material how is it in any way a given that Kitty Pryde will be in this film?

Anyway, I have enjoyed the majority of these films enough to give this one a chance.  Although I do remember Vaughn at one time saying the story would somehow touch on the Kennedy assassination?  Does he replace Senator Kelly from the orginal storyline?  That could be interesting.

I was a regular X-men reader for years and knew the comic continuity well for the time periods used in all the X-men/Wolverine movies. That being said, it has never bothered me that they've changed around characters and events from the comics in the X-movieverse.

What has always been most important to me is a great movie with great story, acting, effects. Some certainly have been better than others IMHO. But I'm not sure why some fans get so upset about changes in the adaptation to the screen: "What!?! That guy doesn't enter the story for years!!! How dare they move this over here and that over there!?!"

As long as it isn't unrecognizable from the source material and carries its original themes and basic story and characters I am fine with it. I absolutley love X-men: 1st Class but the inconsistencies with the original trilogy does bother me. Perhaps with the upcoming Days of Future Past storyline that will find ways to cleverly deal with that.

Guaranteed the Sentinels will just be human sized and human looking. Essentially, fighting Terminators, just to save on budget and still trying to remain a tad "realistic".

There have been man sized really powerful Sentinels in the comics before - so no big deal. I'm sure they'll still have huge ones if not as huge as the comics.

SPOILER ALERT:

It was all actually just a dream and Logan wakes up hungover after banging the hell out of Jean Grey, Rogue and Storm. Bad news is that in his nightmare fueled sleep he inadvertantly killed them all with his claws. :)

There you can go home now and you are welcome.
