Millar Will Deliver New Pitch for SUPERMAN

This last weekend, thanks to fellow Maniac Hanso, we passed along news to you that author Mark Millar was still interested in trying out a new story for Superman despite being clearly stopped last October by the comic conglomerates Marvel and DC. Click on the link above for the Friday story in which he talked to the Kentucky Democrat about his "love" for the character and the previous incident in October where he was denied the opportunity.

Well, he's still talking about doing a revamp of Superman. He has posted a new clarification of the comments above via his official messageboards. Here's what he had to say on the news.

That Superman news is interesting, isn't it? In the interests of clarity (because I'm sure this will be picked up somewhere) a very well known American action director heard about my love of Superman, approached my and asked me to team up with he and his producer to make a pitch for this. We've been talking for several weeks now and, if this is going to happen, we'll know by Christmas. He has huge pull at WB so fingers crossed. But this is nothing more than a huge US name pulling me into his fold and making me part of a package."

There you go Maniacs. Like this weekend's news, we're still left wondering if Millar will even be allowed to pitch this new idea with an "American action director". At last notice, DC/WB still has a deal with Bryan Singer developing a story with Legendary Pictures for Superman: Man of Steel and Mark Millar is still authoring comics for Marvel and some competitors.

Well there goes my Wolfgang Petersen as directr theory, that guy isn't American. Who has pull at WB and does action? Can't think of anyone right now.

Jim Sturgess, the guy from 21, as Superman! Either for this flick or the Justice League one. Bulk him up a bit and he's Kal-El.

Whoever does it needs to have a super-villan or the movie will suck ass. And please no repeats using Zod. Supes Returns was so damn hard to sit through.

I don't see what the big deal is,comic book writers are always hopping from company to company. Hell, DC and MArvel even have done intercompany crossovers like Superman and Silver Surfer so what is the big deal if this guy writes for Marvel.

If we get a good story out of it and the company makes money where is there a problem?

And I agree with evilbeagle, enough with using or reusing villians. I'm sick of Luthor and I don't want to see Zod again. There are Fifty Million other villians in Superman's world, let's see someone different like Braniac or Darksied or Mettallo just to name three, and not all in the same movie.

Bizarro would be hot. But I wouldnt be surprise it might be Brianic too. Who knows, But who ever it is I want a super fight thats for sure. I love when the superheroes go against someone that is just as powerful as them.

I'd like to see a new villian, something they just make up and not one from the comics.
How about a little creativity???

And I thought Singer was already attached to Man of Steel, is this for the third new one?

"in the new superman flick, lois lane does a human interest story on the tragedy of mark millar not being allowed to pitch to WB/DC because he has too many gobs of money from 'wanted.' superman fights male pattern baldness, and in the process bonds with lex luthor. all this, and jimmy olsen gets a visit from his cousins mary kate and ashley."

wow, sounds better then superman returns already!

I doubt that WB goes for this. How about Millar, think he's got a new enemy in B.Singer.

But I am still hoping they roll with Millar just because I hate what Singer did with SR. From the kid, to Lois Lane's casting,to the kid, to Lex with another real estate scheme, to the kid, to the re-thread of Donner's film and did I mention the kid.

I don't know about Bizarro, that's like SM2 fighting someone with his abilities. Give me Brainiac or Parasite or Metallo or if you think you can pull off a Doomsday story give me that.

When are the going to do a movie where Superman finally gets tired of Lex trying to KILL him all the damn time, grabs him and throwing him with super speed at a building and splattering him all over it.

I kind of doubt it will work out. WB already has a working relationship with Singer. He already has working plans for his Supes sequel. Unless they really have concerns about whether Singer will deliver a profitable film (SR did make money just not as much as they expected), I wouldn't thing they'd rock the boat with another re-vamp of the character so soon.
