Millar's KICK ASS Ready for Production

It seems that the big screen treatment of Mark Millar's Kick Ass is farther along than anyone thought. While the only confirmed news we have on it is that director Matthew Vaughn is leading production, there has been little else said about the project. There have been rumors that Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig may be starring in the film but none of that has been confirmed. Pitt has a working relationship with Vaughn through their friendship of Guy Ritchie. Pitt, as you know, co-starred in Ritchie's Snatch. Craig has a working relationship with Vaughn through his movie Layer Cake.

But again, no casting announcements have been confirmed. Still, Millar has told Comic Book Resources that they have the adaptation full cast and the confirmations will be coming soon through Variety press releases.

"The casting's all been done, and everything's all in line now with that. There's two big names attached, which I can't mention so we can get on the cover of 'Variety.' And now we've got everyone. The kids who show up at the end of issue #3 - we just cast the girl, and that was a really tricky one because we needed to find someone who could do martial arts stuff. So the whole movie's ready to role."

Production will get rolling in New York in August for a TBA 2009 release likely.

The rumor I had heard was De Niro, who Vaughn worked with on Stardust.

That too, fft.

There have been rumors of Pitt being in the film. There have been rumors of Daniel Craig being in the film. There have been rumors of Robert De Niro being in the film.

All have working relationships with director Matthew Vaughn.

We won't know for certain until Variety does the press release but there's a good bet that De Niro, Craig and Pitt are two of the big name stars that Millar mentions above.

Wait. Pitt and or Craig are not being consider for the title role are they? Kick Ass is like 15-16yrs. (can't remember.) If so consider it another screw up of Mark's work. Eventhough he liked the movie version they did of Wanted but I would have preferred them to stick to being villians and not assassins.

They keep changing his stories because for some reason the studios are optioning his work before it's complete and then they start the script without knowing what Millar himself had in mind. Same thing that happened with Wanted. Too bad too because I would've loved to have seen Shithead in the big screen, that alone would've been worth it.

Kick Ass has been great trough its first three issues so far. The only grown up getting any significant time has been the kid's dad and one mafioso briefly. Anyway the film will probably differ from the book quite a bit so why bother guessing who'll be who. Just make sure you get decent kid actors to pull this off. I know some people will have a problem with kids being involved in a film this violent but hopefully the studio won't succumb to pressure.

Farily certain just from looking the way things are going he'll probably have the idea to be one in high school, pull it off in College or something along those lines.

Didn't they do the same with Allen Moore's LXG. They bought the film rights before hand or something of that nature?

I hear toby mcguire is signed on to play kick-ass himself and halle berry is signed for the ninja girl, but instead of playing a teen and a pre-teen, they'll be 30-somethings living in a fancy downtown penthouse. halle said she wants to stay true to the comic, so she's asking that they replace all the violence with pie-throwing (don't worry, they're still looking to keep it at a rough & tumble PG rating). and I think kevin smith has a cameo as a douchebag salesman.

Curious as to whether the Motion Picture Association or the Powers That Be will permit "Kick Ass" to be used as the working title?

Pretty sure they can get away with Kick Ass as the title goes for the MPAA. The Spy who Shagged me = the spy who fucked me so why not? Plus you can say fuck in a pg-13 film as long as you are not speaking about the ACT itself.

you can also kill as many people as you want as long as there is no blood. WHOO-HOOO!
