Director Frank Miller wasn't kidding around when he told press at the Comic Con event that he was looking towards keeping his adaptation of Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT accurate. He made a comment about the fact that the comic featured ladies with curved features and he would be looking for the same details in his cast. Over the course of the past month, we've had three new women join the cast of the classic comic strip. First, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes hopped on board the project as femme fatales. Now, Sarah Paulson has been attached according to the Hollywood Reporter. Paulson will be playing the role of Dr. Ellen Dolan, the hero's true love and daughter of the police commissioner.
Plot Summary: Centers on a rookie cop(Gabriel Macht) who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus(Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has a different mission: he's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.
THE SPIRIT hits theaters everywhere January 16, 2009.
