Prepare to hear that famous theme song once more-Tom Cruise and director J.J Abrams are joining forces again by agreeing to co-produce the fourth installment of “Mission: Impossible,” slated for potential release in 2011.
Abrams directed Cruise in “Mission: Impossible III” in 2006 which grossed $395 million worldwide, but doesn’t hold up to previous films in this original TV franchise – “Mission Impossible: II” grossed $545 million worldwide and the original brought in $452 million.
After recent success of Abrams’ “Star Trek,” which was released six weeks ago and has grossed $335 million so far, the pairing could revive the film for a new generation.
This is fresh news following the 2006 fallout Cruise had with Paramount Pictures, when they announced they were ending their 14-year relationship with the “Valkyrie” star, citing the economic damage to his value as an actor and producer from his controversial public behavior which included a slightly bizarre incident on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” in which he hopped around the set and couch while professing love for his then-girlfriend, actress Katie Holmes.
As for now, both Cruise and Abrams have other projects on their plate, with Abrams producing a sequel to “Star Trek” with Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk, which is looking at a release date of summer 2011 and producing the comedy “Morning Glory” with Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams and Diane Keaton. Cruise has a few films in development and has been rumored to be starring in an untitled James Mangold project along with Cameron Diaz, his co-star from “Vanilla Sky.”
Currently, no writers have been hired for the fourth installation.

yeah, the whole Mission Impossible was crap from day one...I remember seeing the movie going "what the hell? this sucks!"

I even foolishly bought MI2, when it appeared on video.....that sucked even more...

the show was good though...loved the show...it's been eons since I've seen it though

I loved MI3...I would love to see another Cruise/ Abrhams Mission. I could give about Tom Cruise's personal life. He makes good movies.

MI3 was the best of the bunch. I wouldn't mind seeing some more. As much as I liked Abrams version, I'd like to see them continue with a different director for each movie. Wasn't Fincher attached to 3 at some point? I'd love to see what he comes up with!

Your mission, should you choose to accpet it is to find a kick ass director so that this movie dosn't suck royal monkey ass. This post will self destruct in 5 seconds...

MI3 was a POS! I hated it! Abrams should stick to TV! I wish they had made a faithful adaptation of the concept of MI! It would have been much more interesting than what they actually did!

MI4 could be cool if it was an ensemble movie, the way the TV show was. We don't need another 2 hours of Super-Tom, though.

These movies are crap.  Who cares.

I loved all the MI films though I think 2 was the weakest. I'm actually a bit surprised at the amount of hate being voiced. I had more fun with these films than any recent Bond films and even the camera shaking Bourne. Though to be fair Bourne has a different tone than MI. Keep bringing them
