MISSION Not So Impossible?

At the Seoul Digital Forum in the South Korea, Viacom's Sumner Redstone said he has no objection to Tom Cruise starring in the next installment of the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise.

Redstone stated, "I consider Tom Cruise a great actor and a good friend. And if Paramount decides to move ahead with him, I will not object." He added that the decision would be up to manager-turned-studio head Brad Grey, who currently runs Paramount Pictures.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE grossed $545 million at the box office worldwide, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II grossed $467 million worldwide and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III, which cost approximately $150 million, grossed $395.5 million worldwide.

Redstone ended Paramount's 14-year relationship with Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner in August 2006 and publicly criticized the actor's behavior. He cut ties with the producer/actor after he jumped on a couch during a taping of OPRAH. In addition, Cruise was seen in a much talked about segment of the TODAY show challenging and attacking Matt Lauer over the use of antidepressant drugs.

Tom Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner are currently running MGM.

VALKYRIE, which stars Cruise and is directed by Bryan Singer, is currently in post-production. The actor is in pre-production on HARDY MEN.

Mr Cruise lost credibility in my book. The last Mission Impossible was mission unbearable; but I am sure that many loved the movie. So, congrats to MI fans!

I would guess after Valkyrie bombs you won't see another MI movie for quite a while.

I liked the MI movies and in my opinion MI3 was the best one so I wouldn't mind seeing Ethan Hunt return even though Cruise is nuts. The franchise could move on without him, just bring in another spy and maybe make it a la Bourne.
Mania, where you at with the Avengers news? I gotta get the news from Yahoo? Come on!

I liked the first one, the second was garbage, and the third was cool, just left some plot hole too open for me.
I like Tom Cruise as an actor. He is a master of his craft, BUUUUT he is a loony. Sorry if I offend anyone, but he is. He just spent $100,000 on his kids 2nd birthday party. The kid isn't gonna remember that shit. If you wanna do something special, donate $99,000 to starving children around the world, and throw your 2 year old a $1,000 b-day party. $1,000 party for a 2 year old is pretty extravagant.

On a side note, Any religion created in the 20th century on a bet IS LOONY!!!!

I have a feeling that Valkyrie is going to crash and burn but it's not going to be because of Tom Cruise but because of Bryan Singer...Tom Cruise has proven he still has what it takes to be a leading actor even though he has proven to be a freak show in his private life...Bryan Singer is a hack who got lucky with a few movies, The Usual Suspects, Apt pupil and the X-Men...It does not matter who would have directed the first X-Men movie unless it was Uwe Bole, it still would have put people in the seats and made money because everyone was waiting for that comic/cartoon to come to life on the big screen, other than that, the rest of his work sucks especially that Superman movie...

gauleyboy, who are you afraid of offending? I think about the only thing we all on the message boards here agree on is that Cruise is a looney toon and took a leap off the deep end a long time ago. I used to be able to at least respect him as an actor for a long time despite knowing he's a Scientologist, but after his jumping around on couches and fight with Lauer I couldn't take him anymore. Cruise could actually learn a thing or two from Mel Gibson of all people by staying away from the limelight for a while before returning to the big screen. Gibson took some much-needed time off after being busted in his DUI and is just now - almost two years after the incident - picking his next starring gig.

Rgtchtiger...It was not the DUI that kept him out of the lime light, DUI's are a dime a dozen with actors and everyone else in that business for a matter of fact, it was the Anti Semitic comments that kept him out of it plus Apocalypto came out after that incident but by only a few months...Nothing would stop this man from making movies but him and I am glad he is getting back up on the horse because he is one of my favorite directors of all time and though he is good in front of the camera he is even better behind it...

I’m not a Singer fan but if someone can successfully do something 3 times, when does it stop being luck?
I don’t know what Mel Gibson is planning next but that man needs to get in touch with Sony cause he has to direct God of War if they ever make that film.

I'm a singer fan and it's not luck. How does 3 AWESOME movies and one mediocre movie equal no talent hack?

That is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Who are we to call a successful talented person a hack because we didn't like one of their movies?

tiger, I guess i was worried bout offending some loony scientologist roaming around here. Although not worried enough to stop me from calling him a loony and busting his even more fake than other religions.

I can easily fix this franchise. Bring in Mark Harmon as the brother of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) who went rogue from the MIF agency years before, going as far as faking his own death. We'll learn that the older brother recruited Ethan into the agency before something strained their relationship. Now, Hunt's deadly brother has re-emerged to threaten him...and it is up to an old friend to both brothers, a character to be played by Will Smith to come to the rescue. With a background in the special forces, Smith's character joins the MIF Team to assist Hunt in bringing down his brother berfor all is too late. Smith being added to the cast alone, will guarantee major box office for the film, and serve to protect Cruise from attacks from the media, the critics, and the public--regarding the character assassination issues aimed at cruise over his involvement with Scientology. This will be the only way to make certain this film is a hit, and when that occurs, Tom's star will shine again!!! Following that, his next piece of work should be back to back sequels to Top Gun--all sure to be major hits!!!
