At the Seoul Digital Forum in the South Korea, Viacom's Sumner Redstone said he has no objection to Tom Cruise starring in the next installment of the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise.
Redstone stated, "I consider Tom Cruise a great actor and a good friend. And if Paramount decides to move ahead with him, I will not object." He added that the decision would be up to manager-turned-studio head Brad Grey, who currently runs Paramount Pictures.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE grossed $545 million at the box office worldwide, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II grossed $467 million worldwide and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III, which cost approximately $150 million, grossed $395.5 million worldwide.
Redstone ended Paramount's 14-year relationship with Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner in August 2006 and publicly criticized the actor's behavior. He cut ties with the producer/actor after he jumped on a couch during a taping of OPRAH. In addition, Cruise was seen in a much talked about segment of the TODAY show challenging and attacking Matt Lauer over the use of antidepressant drugs.
Tom Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner are currently running MGM.
VALKYRIE, which stars Cruise and is directed by Bryan Singer, is currently in post-production. The actor is in pre-production on HARDY MEN.
