Miyazaki's last film, Howl's moving castle, just didn't do it for me. Hopefully with this film he can get back to the glory of his previous films like Princess Monaoke and Spirited Away.

Variety is reporting that Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy and Pixar honcho John Lasseter are now involved with Studio Ghibli in bringing over the latest Miyazaki feature anime film, Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea, for a summer release in the United States. The voice cast for the U.S. release, revealed in November, includes Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin and Cloris Leachman. In its Japanese theatrical release during the summer of 2008, the film grossed $165 million so far which made it Japan's biggest earner for the year.
According to Variety, "The goal is to boost both the number of screens and the box office take beyond Ghibli's record for a U.S. release set by "Spirited Away," the Miyazaki toon that earned a little more than $10 million on 714 screens in 2002 and 2003."

I had a chance to see this last October and it instantly became my second favorite after Tonari no Tototoro.
As a fairly big fan of Miyazaki's work, I was just thinking about this the other day after I endured Bolt; unfortunately, I've seen the trailer and I'm not that thrilled. Since I do not know Japanese, all I could do was guage the action and animation, and I was less than impressed. The animation seems a little subpar (for Studio Ghibli) and visually it just does not seem interesting. Hopefully this has a wallop of a story because I am not hooked yet.
