What They Say
With the battle nearly over, Dozul Zabi himself attacks the White Base in his Mobile Armor Big-Zam. After that battle is over, Amuro and the Gundam are lured into a trap by the cunning M'Quve! But when Amruo goes missing, Sayla is sent to find him, and instead she runs into another...and at the fortress of Solomon, the White Base is suddenly attacked from out of nowhere. Can they survive the attack of the Zeon Newtype?

The Review!
Things begin to get a little trippy in NewTypes and the Future as the reasons why Amuro is so good at piloting the Gundam come to light. Sayla and Char?s background is finally explained, as well as how Zeon was formed. Plot lines need to be resolved as the last arc approaches. Let?s go kill another person while we?re at it too.

Audio:

The English sound track provided is a simple stereo mix with no directionality detected. I couldn?t hear any distortions, hisses, or pops in the soundtrack. All the dialogue and music was clear.

Video:

The print still shows its age, as scratches in the print rear their heads quite frequently. Encoding wise, this DVD is pretty impressive. I didn?t spot any glaring mpeg artifacts or macro blocking, just some line shimmering.

Packaging:

Lalah Sune takes center stage on the cover as she drifts downward in a watery environment, and behind her are silhouettes of Amuro and Char. The three of them are connected through destiny. On the spine, we have our usual volume number. The back has one line summaries of each episode on the DVD, and features a pic of Gundam and Fraw Bow.

Menu:

The main menu uses the image of the front cover, and is similar to past discs. Sleggar, Dozul, and Bright are featured in the background image. Submenus include scene selection for each episode, trailers, the credit page, and the MS Encyclopedia extra.

Extras:

The Mobile Suit Encyclopedia is the only extra on this DVD. Again, we have a selection of just Zeon Mobile Armors including the Zock and Gelgoog. There are two two customized armors, Char?s Gelgoog that he uses to battle Amuro on Texas, and M?Quve?s Gyan.

NewTypes takes center stage on this volume, so let?s get this rolling!

Big Zam?s Last Stand finishes off the Battle of Solomon from the previous volume with the Zeon about to lose. Dozul gets into the Big Zam, a mobile armor that?s extremely powerful and he takes out Balls, GMs and battleships quite easily as laser weapons reflect off it. Mirai takes an opportunity given to her by Bright to confess her feelings to Sleggar, who gives her a ring and a kiss before heading back into battle in the G-Fighter. Amuro, Kai, and Sleggar attack the Big Zam at close range and Dozul kills Sleggar before Amruo takes it out.

The Duel in Texas takes place in the abandoned colony of Texas and its surrounding environs as the White Base cleans up the area of any remaining Zeon forces. Fraw and Amuro have a small conversation during an examination, and it becomes evident that she doesn?t love him anymore. Char is on Texas with Lalah to await the delivery of the mobile armor Elmeth for Lalah. M?Quve decides to lure the Gundam inside Texas for a duel in his customized suit the Gyan. During the battle, Amuro discovers he now has the ability to predict what enemy pilots are doing. M?Quve is no match for Amuro, and Char moves in with a prototype Gelgoog to finish off Amuro. Lalah is watching the battle, and she and Amuro realize they can speak to each other mentally.

Char and Sayla picks up from the previous episode as Amuro and Char continue their duel. Due to his developed NewType ablities, Amruo easily defeats Char. Char runs away, but as Amuro goes to pursue him he discovers the Gundam is too damaged to proceed. The White Base enters Texas and sends out Sayla and Job in jeeps to find Amuro. While Sayla is driving around, Char jumps into her jeep, and we find out their back-story. Listening in on this conversation is Bright. After Char leaves, she finds Amuro and the Gundam.

The NewType: Chalia Bull starts with a mysterious force easily eliminating Federation ships. Lalah is somehow easily taking out the Federation ships from quite a long distance, and Amuro can sense something is out there. Degin Zabi finds a soldier named Chalia Bull in his ranks that he is also a NewType, and Degin sends Chalia out to Kycilia in the front to test his abilities in the Braw Bro, which Amuro destroyed a prototype of earlier. When Chalia meets up with Kycilla, Char and Lalah are also present, and Chalia can sense that they are similar to him. Back on the White Base, Bright and Sayla discuss Sayla?s relationship with Char. Chalia goes out to test the Braw Bro, and encounters Amuro, Sayla, Kai, and a recovered Hayato in their respective craft. Amuro at first thinks three ships are attacking them but it?s due to the Braw Bro having wire controlled mega particle guns that extend from the ship. The battle is fierce, and Amuro eventually takes out the Braw Bro but realizes the Gundam can no longer keep up with his NewType ablities.

The first two episodes serve mainly to wrap up loose ends. Sleggar and Dozul both get killed in the first one. Honestly, I don?t really understand why Tomino had to introduce Sleggar into the series. Mirai?s affection for him seems misplaced to me. M?Quve finally meets his end in the second episode using underhanded attacks in order to try to defeat the Gundam, and to prove his worth to his sister. Char?s reasons for joining the Zeon are finally explained when Char and Sayla meet again. While his reasons for joining were based on revenge, the man grew to find another reason to live with Lalah. Lalah filled a place in Char?s heart that had been left black by his father?s death. NewTypes are abundant in the last episode, and we get to see what a mobile armor with a psycommu equipped. Sadly, Chalia Bull gets caught up in a power struggle between Degin and Kycilia that sends him out into battle prematurely.

We?re one DVD away from the end of the series, and the focus is moving towards NewTypes and what they mean for the future of mankind. Everything is now ready for two men to rush towards their destinies, with a woman in the middle.
