For over a year now, there have been two guys in the running for the lead role as Captain Marvel in Shazam. Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as "The Rock) and Brandon Molale. These are the leading contenders for the role and the two go to guys from the studios involved. It hasn't been decided who will put on the tights of the superhero but Reel Girl had a chance to talk about the possibilities with leading contender, Brandon Molale.

Here's a few questions and answers from their chat;

Reel Girl: So tell me about all this Shazam excitement. They say you may be the man.
Brandon: There's a lot going on. My name and The Rock are the two names. I had people contact me over a year ago about this. So I said, Hey, you know what, look. If there's any DC or Marvel character that I look like, it's this guy. The similarities are ridiculous. I said I would love to do it.

Reel Girl: Have you gone in for a screen test?
Brandon: No, the script hasn't even been written yet. But I'm just flattered that they're even considering me. I was shocked. They're making every comic-book movie as it is, and it's like, you know, I know my abilities as an actor. I'm a good actor. I just need someone to give me something I can sink my teeth into.

Reel Girl: Have you run into The Rock at all?
Brandon
: You know, he works out in my gym, and I've known Dwayne for years. I was in The Rundown with him. So, it's, like, he's a great guy.

Reel Girl: I hope you teased him about this whole situation. Yeah?
Brandon
: There's a character named Black Adam in the Captain Marvel world. And he's actually evil. And [The Rock] looks a lot more like Black Adam than he does Captain Marvel. So, I would love to see him play the bad guy. You don't ever see Dwayne play the bad guy…and who doesn't want to be the villain?!

Brandon Molale has appeared in Mr Deeds, Collateral, Dodgeball, The Longest Yard, Reno 911: Miami, Mission Impossible II and many more movies. He already has 7 movies listed between now and 2008. The comedy Balls of Fury which comes out this fall will be his next film on the horizon.

Big thanks for our Scooper "DaForce" for the tip!

I'd like to see The Rock play a villain myself. The only villain he ever played (besides a heel wrestler) would be in Doom I believe.

He was considered a bad guy in The Mummy 2, where he was the scorpion king, but then turned into a good guy when he made the scorpion king. Still he was a bad guy in 2.

I don't see the Rock as Captain Marvel, but I definitely can see him as Black Adam. It's almost too perfect if you look at a comparison.

I can definitely see Brandon Molale as Shazam (or Captain Marvel, whichever you prefer)...Honestly, I can see The Rock as Black Adam...
With all due respect to The Rock (and his fans out there)...This would be a good vehicle for The Rock, considering his acting career as an "A-List" somewhat soured. Though, I hear other than co-starring in the upcoming TV show remake GET SMART with Steve Carrell, The Rock is starring in an upcoming Walt Disney (Yes, Walt Disney) movie, about a superstar football player/single dad raising a little girl...It's a comedy a la Vin Diesel's THE PACIFIER...We'll see
But yeah, Brandon Molale would be superb as Captain Marvel.

Wow, Molale looks JUST like the Captain Whitebread (Shazam) from the comics. The Rock just doesn't do it for me in the role.

I think that the Rock would be cool as Black Adam...I do like the comparisons and it would make for a better role for him other than Captain Marvel....because of the bad guy he played in Doom...I think that he could pull this off and it be worth it....

The Rock played a "bad guy" in Doom as well.

The Rock is following the Vin Diesel career path to eventual oblivion. He would stink in this role. Not that I care too much, never been a Cap Marv fan.
