It seems that Jason Momoa knows exactly what he wants to do with his immediate future but it all comes down the moviegoers and the box office. The man who will soon become the new Conan the Barbarian in theaters across the globe sat down with CraveOnline to answer some questions on bringing the Robert E. Howard character back to life. And one of those questions centered on whether he would be willing to return for more installments. Not only did he answer the obvious "yes", Momoa confirmed that he's written a script for the sequel and which direction he would like to see the character turn towards.

CRAVE Online: Are you signed on to do another [Conan]?

Jason Momoa: I am, as long as people go out and watch [the first one], you know what I mean?

C: Yeah. Is there a story you'd like to do for the next movie?

JM: I wrote it.

C: Did you really?

JM: Yeah, so we're waiting to see if they'll accept it.

C: Is it original or did you adapt it from something?

JM: It will mostly be... It's character-adapted, because I really want to get into more of the mythical creatures, you know?

Check out the rest of the interview here.

Conan the Barbarian is set to arrive in 3D/2D theaters on August 19, 2011. It stars Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ron Perlman, Leo Howard, Steve O'Donnell, Raad Rawi Fassir, Nonso Anozie, Bob Sapp and Milton Welsh. Helmer Marcus Nispel led the direction, based on a screenplay by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Sean Hood.

AWSEOME.  Sounds like he has been reading the Howard books and is a fan.  This is good for the future of Conan.  I can see he is putting passion into this.  I am giving him my money when Conan comes out so they can make a worthy sequel.  I hope they adapt his script..

I'll be there opening weekend, but early word is this is bad or not as good as people had hoped from some of the early screenings.  I'm hoping for the best though.

I hate when people give answers in interviews with "you know."   I see professional sports people do that all the time, drives me nuts.

Any early buzz on Conan out there?  I admit I haven't really been paying attention to it but I am interested in seeing it.

Unfortunatly, some fans might look into it but, I don't think it will make lots of money therefore, that sequel is looking slim and almost non-existant.

I know the new Conan doesn't really interest me and I'm usually a fan of Conan. Maybe the Arnold one is just too good compared to this new one in my book (Barbarian of course).

Wiseguy 8/8/2011 5:49:16 AM

Yeah I read mix reactions but the negative stuff was really negative. Still too early and too few reactions to give them any weight.

I think Conan will have a hard time with Fright Night which seems to have their campaign fully on while I only rarely see any Conan spots.

Either way I'm paying to see CONAN and hope it does well enough. Rumor is that it's 90mil budget so if that's true it needs to draw well to recoup all of that.

I really think the studios have moved on to looking at both box office AND DVD/BRD sales when determining sequel potential. I remember a quote from 5, 6 years back that a studio exec said they had shifted mentality to theatrical releases being 2-hour trailers for the DVD.

That said, Aug 19 is an interesting weekend. I'm not sure what will win, but Fright Night....lots of vampire fans out there right now.

Personally, I can't give either of them my movie-money that weekend. I'm going to see a movie that I have a bit/extra part in, instead.

Wiseguy 8/8/2011 6:52:59 AM

Ah come on WarCry you can't say shit like that and not tell us what movie you're in. Hey maybe I'll give it my business and you can always claim that it was you that contributed to its final gross.

Hater will be haters, even movie critics.  Who ussually ARE haters.

I guess any ol' schlub can write a script where most of the dialogue is stuff like "RAAAAAAA!" and "URRRRGH!" and "NOOOOOO!"

momitchell7 8/8/2011 10:59:16 AM

You know, I have quite a few friends who aren't really "genre" fans like us, who've said they are really looking forward to this coming out. I saw some pretty freaking awesome scenes from Conan at Comic-con and I think the buzz is going to be huge once it's released and people have seen it.

I know I'm going to see it, you know?!
