Dominic Monaghan ("Lost", Lotr) has been cast in two upcoming genre projects, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The first one, Pet, will be a psychological thriller by MGM and produced by Aaron Kaplan, Sean Perrone, Steven Schneider and Dan Katzman.

Plot Concept: Monaghan will play Seth, a man who bumps into his old high school crush and quickly becomes obsessed with her. He takes her captive underneath the animal shelter where he works but soon suspects that his old flame is not who she seems to be.

The second film is a new period zombie feature called I Sell the Dead. Monaghan will be co-starring alongside Ron Perlman and Glenn McQuaid is set to direct for production company Glass Eye Pix. No plot concept to give on that one as of yet...

Sounds like an interesting PET project. If the trailers look good I may see it in theaters. But then, this does sound like something I could end up renting.

Even if these both suck, he's already done better than Billy Boyd has done since LOTR. I had high hopes for both of them, but since the Trilogy, Boyd has done, what, Seed of Chucky? Monaghan has done 3 seasons of a top 10 show/cultural phenomenon...

Wasn't Boyd in Master and Commander? I thought he was in that. Anyway both of these projects have some hope IMO, if Perlman is starting in one of them it should be a good sign. We'll see

Wiseguy, you would think that about Perlman (at least I did) until you realize he was in the last Uwe Boll movie.

But yeah, seeing Perlman and Monaghan in a movie together, much less a period movie about zombies -- that does sound AWESOME. I'd heard of the movie before, but had no idea it had zombies in it (I also thought it had already started filming for some reason).

And Monaghan -- I've got nothing but praise for that hobbit. He could've been type-cast for the rest of his life for his big feet and pointy ears and then he became everyone's favorite, washed-up, bloody rock god -- Charlie Pace. (It was really nice to see him last week.)
