Collins Suggests More TOS Surprises in TREK - Aug 19, 2008 - 10:04am
I've always had the feeling the Shat will show up in the film and his tantrum over not being in it was just to throw everyone off. We'll see when we'll see.

Fishburne Officially Joining C.S.I - Aug 19, 2008 - 07:02am
I haven't watched the series for awhile but this will definitely make me want to check it out again.

WATCHMEN Lawsuit Approved for Fox - Aug 19, 2008 - 06:58am
This is all coming down to money. Either Warner will have to pay Fox off or they will have to work a deal for them to handle distribution either foreign or domestic. Warner may retain the DVD rights. Hopefully they can finish it all and keep the opening date. Hanso, that Chris Rock line is funny. And often true.

Raimi and Cruise Team to Adapt SLEEPER - Aug 19, 2008 - 06:45am
It's hard to get a handle on this even after looking at the wiki entry on it. It looks like it has kind of a film noir thing and some of the feel of the Wanted movie. Wait and see.

WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 18, 2008 - 09:07am
Sorry this has nothing to do with DC but I didn't know where else to put this Star Wars related item. I don't know if any of you have seen this but this is an amatuer video somebody made called "Death Star over San Francisco" that is fantastic! http://current.com/items/89204971_death_star_over_san_francisco

WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 18, 2008 - 07:23am
It's funny how the comic rivalry between DC and Marvel has now carried on into the movies. Also funny how 10 or so years ago everyone was talking about how DC seemed to have their act together on movies while Marvel couldn't get anything good on the screens. Darknight is dead on. DC needs to form a separate production company in WB (since they still own all the characters)that is run by filmmakers that have a passion for doing them right. If any lesson is learned by Marvel's example it is love the characters, respect them ,do them justice in your adaptations and not only the fanboys will like it but the general audience will, too.

Box Office: TROPIC THUNDER Knocks Down the Batman - Aug 18, 2008 - 07:04am
Saw Tropic Thunder and enjoyed it. It wasn't super hilarious perhaps because they showed so many scenes in the trailer but it was still very good. Downey Jr. was the the highlight. Just fantastic. Looking at the commentaries what strikes me as funny here is how everyone is nit-picking over who "owns" the box office. What is biggest after TDK? Is it IM or Indy, etc. You're arguing about a hair's width at this level of money. If this one or that made 50 or 60 mil more than the other, the filmmakers and studios aren't whimpering at their desks thinking they are failures. If you're in the top 5 (or top 10 even) your pic made hellamongious dough! And we haven't even gotten to DVDs yet.

A CANDYMAN Remake in The Works? - Aug 15, 2008 - 07:53am
Post-it note stuck on the desk of all Sony execs: STOP YOUR MUTHA-EFFIN' MULLIN'!!!!! PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!! IT IS SO INCREDIBLY EASY TO COME UP WITH A NEW HORROR IDEA!!! STUDIOS ARE DOING IT ALL THE TIME!!!! PLEASE DON'T "RE-IMAGINE" A MOVIE BARELY 15 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PPPLEEEEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE!!!!!!!!

Miller out of JLA and In for GREEN LANTERN? - Aug 15, 2008 - 07:15am
This is good news. Miller would probably do a very hard Sci-Fi Lantern rather than a "superhero" vision of him. Maybe he can also get it made in Australia which was one of the major delays for the JL movie. Part of me still wants to see a JL movie made but I still don't like (or think the general public will like) a different set of Bats & Supes for that movie. Megan Gale still looks like a perfect Wonder Woman, though.

Belyaev's AMPHIBIAN Coming to the Big Screen - Aug 12, 2008 - 07:06am
I just like the Mangrove swamp and Jungle Labs Anti-bacterial Pellets for Amphibians that Google popped up for related products.

Scribe Penn Takes on THE ARGONAUTS - Aug 12, 2008 - 06:50am
I knew this was coming with all the new sword and sandal movies. What I am really pleased about is that the Zak Penn script sounds like an original take on the myth, not a movie remake like the new Clash of the Titans. This new one is its own film not stealing the title and plot from the original Ray Harryhausen classic like the Titans one is. The Dreamworks story sounds pretty cool, too. Modern guys suddenly transported back in time and having to deal with Medusa and the like. Kind of sounds like the next step for a National Treasure movie.

Angelina Jolie Replaces Cruise in EDWIN A. SALT - Aug 12, 2008 - 06:42am
Ponyboy you beat me to the Edwina:-) I hope Jolie puts on more weight than she had in Wanted. She looked anorexic.

J.J. Abrams Manages DISASTER For Universal - Aug 12, 2008 - 06:39am
Will it be in Sensaround like the 1974 film? It was an augmented sound system that created a deep rumble throughout the theatre to give the effect of a real earthquake. They used the gimmick for the WWII film Midway (also starring Heston), and a theatrically released version of the original Battlestar Galactica.

CBS Grabs New HAWAII FIVE-O - Aug 12, 2008 - 06:32am
They better keep the same theme song.

Isaac Hayes Passes Away at 65 - Aug 11, 2008 - 10:10am
I don't care what your spirituality is , Mr. Hayes, as long as you were a good person. R.I.P. to one bad mutha...SHUT YO' MOUTH!

Four New Character Posters for STAR TREK - Aug 11, 2008 - 10:02am
Fft5305, I agree with you. If they just imitated everyone it would just be a spoof like the Brady Bunch movies. The cast should just follow the dictates of the script (which I believe should be good) and BE the characters. I'm looking forward to this big time, but I know there are still fans who need to see footage as soon as possible before they decide so hopefully there will be another teaser this fall. Did you notice the collars on the actors look different than the originals?

Box Office: DARK KNIGHT Takes Down The Pineapple - Aug 11, 2008 - 09:47am
Raith, my idea is still for the Riddler. He's a famous magician/mentalist like David Blaine/Criss Angel/Kreskin who is a genius known for his grand performances and specials. His stage name is Ed Nygma and he has brilliant deductive skills were he solves complex problems and even works for the police in solving difficult cases. All of which thrills his enormous ego and sociopathic nature. "I'm so much better than the rest of you. I'm surprised I let you all live on my planet." he will say only half-joking. With Batman still on the loose and still fighting crime, Nygma comes to Gotham for performances and to see if he can match wits with this vigilante. "At last there is someone around who can prove a challenge." and he devises elaborate schemes to trap the Dark Knight. Through his clues and puzzles he is putting innocent people in jeopardy which really doesn't matter to him. They are just pawns in an intellectual game to him. My version of the Riddler doesn't present a very physical challenge for Bats so he would probably have to be paired with someone who can give him a hard time in the roughhousing dept.

Bernie Mac Passes Away at 50 - Aug 10, 2008 - 01:04pm
God bless you, Bernie. You gave me joy every time I saw you, especially your show. "Listen up, America!" - Bernie Mac

Box Office: DARK KNIGHT Takes Down The Pineapple - Aug 10, 2008 - 12:59pm
Holy major B.O., Batman! I love the movie like the son I never had but this is getting ridiculous! Still, relatively speaking, all the other movies are doing pretty well, too.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Connor Reunion, Lethal Sequel and Gladiator America - Aug 08, 2008 - 08:05am
Linda Hamilton: If it fits their story well, and she wants to do it I don't mind. Lethal Weapon 5: I'd love to see the old gang together one last time if the story is appropriate for their age. I liked the way the sequels keep adding to the cast and everyone is still there for each movie. Rene Russo: What is it with you? Do you go looking for trouble? Mel Gibson: No, trouble pretty much knows where I live. - Lethal Weapon 4 Statham as DD: If any of today's actors was born to play a superhero it's him. I'd like to see him play DD. A new movie would probably be done more in the style of TDK with a film noir look to it. Justice League movie: I see the financial desire to do it and Miller is a great director but now the public have Christian Bale and the Nolan Batman set in stone. I don't know how the public will react to a different Bats (and a different Supes) in a different world filled with aliens and superpowered beings running around. O'Hearn as Captain America: No....no....no. I don't know his acting ability but he doesn't come across as the charismatic figure I would gladly follow to my death if need be. Superman Villian: Brainiac. He's extremely powerful. He could have followed him back from the wreckage of Krypton when he went back there. Outer space and Earth can be involved in global battles. He could have powerful alien henchmen that he's picked up along the way for Supes to do full scale superhero fights with. He could have a transformer aspect to him to augment himself for fights. And if you really wanted to he could ally himself with Luthor but I think there's been enough of that chracter for awhile.

Sony Grabs Screenwriters for FLASH GORDON - Aug 08, 2008 - 07:34am
Yes, please wipe the taste of that Sci-Fi series out of my mouth. How you could attempt to do a classic character but not have the budget (or creativity) to even do it justice is beyond me. Buck Rogers is already in the pipeline. The current holder to the rights, Flint Dille, is planning a movie with the rumor that Frank Miller is interested in directing.

Alexander Nevsky Set to Play HERCULES - Aug 08, 2008 - 07:24am
Wow! Nevsky is the up and coming greatest actor of our time! This is perfect for him. In 5 years you'll be mentioning him alongside Swarzenegger, Hanks, Ford, Ledger, and Bale! Actually, I don't know a damn thing about him. He looks like Van Damme in that pic.

James Cameron Updates on AVATAR - Aug 07, 2008 - 07:29am
Hanso, I don't think Cameron would even have the time or the inclination for Spider-man even if they offered it to him. He's at a point in his career that he does only what he really wants to do and that usually entails exploring new tech in filmmaking. Working on an already established franchise like SM wouldn't be a challenge for him anymore. But I'm down for whatever he wants to do. Can't wait for this movie.

Fox Brings Espionage Home in THE INFORMANT - Aug 07, 2008 - 07:21am
Sounds like my life story. Don't ask me about it or I'll have to kill you.

Fishburne Replacing Petersen in CSI? - Aug 06, 2008 - 08:19am
Cool! I'd fallen out of watching CSI years ago but if Fishburne or Russell were there I'd be on that body like a blood splatter expert. Malkovich doesn't give me the urge to watch him, though.

Top Maniacal Rumors: More Hulk, Raimi Flashbacks and Craven Screams - Aug 01, 2008 - 06:56am
1. Evil Dead 4: Sam Raimi has a lot of irons in the forge but most of it is as producer so that wouldn't get in his way. After He finishes his upcoming horror film. He also wants to direct new Jack Ryan movies and if he's offered Spider-Man again he could take that. In other words, I don't see it happening soon. 2.Planet Hulk: I haven't seen much of the Marvel Animation but I might check that out. 3. Wolfman with Rick Baker: I think it simply comes down to how either approach looks on film and what the director thinks is best. 4. Venom movie: As I said on the first article about it, this could be a good idea if they approached it like a horror movie character and not a comic book. If you saw a brand new movie about a character possessed by a disgusting black ooze that morphed in hideous ways and amplified its host's worst qualities until he was a viscious killing machine, you might be interested....might. 5. John Barrowman as Captain America: I'm a big Torchwood fan and like his character but I don't think he is right for Cap. My image is of a man so stalwart and true and charismatic, you'd follow him into certain death if he said the cause was true.So far I haven't seen that in his acting. Plus I think it's unlikely because Barrowman is gay. Yes, he is out of the closet and could you even imagine the humongous flack they would take for casting him as the physical embodiment of America? It wouldn't bother me but the amount of publicity this would create would be worse than Passion of the Christ. Ands most of it wouldn't be good. 6. Gotta go!! But I think A Silver Surfer movie would be great!

Raimi Has Another Superhero in TRANSPLANTS - Jul 31, 2008 - 06:32am
Yeah, there is not enough info to say anything about anything here. But I did it anyway.

Sony Moving Forward With VENOM - Jul 31, 2008 - 06:25am
I'm with Whiskey and liked SM3. But beyond that a Venom movie sounds like a great idea. He can be cast in more of a Freddy Krueger/Jason/Jigsaw type role for Horror/action type movies. You might need a more interesting main actor other than Topher Grace, however. I can definitely see this becoming a horror franchise if their card playing is right.

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 12:24pm
Joey, I gotta concede to you on the Indy & Marion interplay. If you were going to get any of the dialogue right it would have to be between them. I give George alot of slack on some things like the SW prequels because I can see what he was TRYING to do. But with Anakin and Padme falling in love being such a crucial part of those movies, I got to just let go of the rope. He should have hired Carrie Fisher to script-doctor the romantic interplay for both those films.

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 12:14pm
"and you guys know what else? A great white shark's teeth are serrated and when the shark bites it will shake its head side to side and the teeth will act as a saw and tear off large chunks of flesh." Is that like Lucas?

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 11:05am
I totally agree with Scythe on this one. Everyone here wanted the Second Coming for the 4th Indiana Jones and built up the movie in their head to godlike proportions. And what they got was a fun popcorn movie in a franchise that took advantage of its time settings the same as the first three. It was fun(for me), not TDK, but a fun movie. As for the fridge being way over the top - how about surviving for god-knows how many miles on the deck of a U-boat (lashed to the periscope when it submerges?) in the first movie? Or jumping out of an airplane in an inflating raft and sliding safely down a mountainside in the second? These things are all in a hard day of field work for Dr. Jones.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 29, 2008 - 09:43am
Hanso and Joey, you are both so right. I couldn't even have imagined that such perfect adaptions of IM and TDK could not only get made but be the biggest box office winners! Perfect storm is right! First Batman created a phenomenon back in the '80s. Then the X-men.Then Spider-man. Each raising the bar ever higher in quality (and profitability). What next? Captain America, Thor, Superman. Those movies will have to cure the common cold now.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 29, 2008 - 09:15am
Easy, easy! Don't be hatin'! I'm only talking about that delicate balance called "Show Business." "Show" being the the artistic part where the filmmaker tries to make to the best of his ability a great work that will meet his standard of excellence and hopefully his audience. And "Business" dealing with the investors. They want to see a profit for their financial effort. If people went in droves to the theaters to watch paint dry on film they would be more than happy to put money in that. Their opinion about whether it's great art or "Show" makes no difference to them. The bottom line does. I'm not defending mediocrity in any way. I was just stating that people paid more to see in the theatre and on DVD for X3 than either of the other 2 X-men movies (which were also very profitable.) Whether the movie or moviemaker made an "inspired" work of art will mostly come down to a matter of opinion. Personally, I was disappointed that such a great story didn't get put to film. I enjoyed X3 for what it was but saddened in the back of my head for what I knew it could be. I don't consider Uwe Boll or Brett Ratner "inspired" filmmakers just because they turn a profit. An inspired work from a comic book source that satisfies the hardcore fanboy and the "average moron" is possible. Iron Man and The Dark Knight are this year's obvious examples. But even then, there are fans who didn't like one or the other. In conclusion, class, I'm just saying that the Show and the Business of movies can tetter back and forth and one can sometimes be more than the other. The business part can be right there for all to see on paper, but the show part will almost always be felt in the moviegoer's head.

Sachs Set to Rewrite Affleck's ARK - Jul 29, 2008 - 07:23am
This does sound like a great CG film for kids. I wonder if they do mean the unchosen animals are all the mythilogical ones?

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 29, 2008 - 07:13am
True, there was more in X3 than was necessary. It tried to include the Phoenix saga, one of the best storylines in all superhero comicdom, as just one of the plots in a single movie. And as comic book fans we can be disappointed that it didn't reach the heights we could see in it. But for the average moviegoer who knew next to nothing about the X-men it obviously made for a great movie. It was the most successful of all of them. If you look at the X films as a film trilogy it was a logical and apparently satisfying conclusion, including the death of Cyclops and Xavier. It all fit in the beginning (introduction), middle (complication), and end (tying all the loose ends and foreshadowing together) format of a trilogy. I think of Ratner as a working ( and extremely successful) director who gets the job done. Like everyone has said, there doesn't appear to be anything in his work that is inspired or genius but for studios he does what they need: get a moneymaking film out to the audience.

John Boorman Reliving EMPEROR HADRIAN - Jul 29, 2008 - 06:59am
"Anall nathrach, oorfas bethud, dorhiel dienvay" - Charm of Making from Excalibur I'm a huge fan of Excalibur. For awhile there years ago, I think I saw it every 2 or 3 months. Also liked Emerald Forest. Then there is Boorman's bizarre Sci-Fi film Zardoz starring Sean Connery. And of course, Deliverance. I don't know what he's been up to lately but it will be good to see another epic from him.

Scott's NOTTINGHAM Production Delayed - Jul 28, 2008 - 07:46am
It would be a great idea to cast someone of equal stature as Robin Hood. Looking at the trailer for Scott's Bed of Lies it looks like it would have been a great idea to have Leonardo Dicaprio play the Prince of Thieves to Crowe's Sheriff.

TV Wasteland: Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog - Jul 28, 2008 - 07:41am
The Middleman is one excellent show. I haven't seen every episode but it is a standout for great writing and comedy. Full of fanboy references and interesting characters. I encourage every maniac to give it a try.

Box Office Update: KNIGHT Scores Victory Over Brothers and FBI - Jul 28, 2008 - 07:36am
Hey, Jarrod. You forgot another one of TDK records. Biggest box office opening for a movie with a clown. Can't nobody stop this batmobile. So, well deserved to see a movie equally financially and critically acclaimed. I don't know how WB can do a Justice League movie now with Batman so firmly embedded in the world's psyche in this realistic style. How could you do it with another actor and team him up with a couple of aliens, an Amazon princess, a superfast runner, and a guy who talks to fish? I had no desire to see the X-Files movie even though I was a fan of the show. My enthusiasm has waned and the trailer gave me no incentive to see it. This Friday we'll see how the Mummy does against the Bat.

Top Maniacal Rumors: More Turtles, Doom Love and Moore Dissent - Jul 25, 2008 - 07:12am
I'd mainly like to pass along the "rumor" I saw on G4's coverage of the San Diego Comic Con last night. Michael Uslan, exec producer of all the Batman films and the upcoming Spirit film, said on the show that he will be developing a Doc Savage film. To which I say yes, yes, yes!!! Just two suggestions to him: Dwayne Johnson as the Man of Bronze. And the other is to set it in modern times. The first suggestion I can't see anyone disagreeing with. The Rock was made for this role. The second might be blasphemy to alot of Savage fans, but comic book/pulp novels set in the early 20th century as movies are notorious for financial failure (the Shadow/1970's Doc Savage film/Sky Captain). Also the character and his companions were supposed to be hi-tech guys of the 1930's. It would all just look quaint and archaic to show them in that time period today.

Singer Takes to the Future with FORMULA - Jul 25, 2008 - 07:00am
I'm sure Singer's priority is the next Superman film. This article says that his company will start developing this project. That means a couple of years of screenwriters at work and occasional meetings, eventually leading to pre-production, casting and all the rest. All of that can be done on the side along with his other announced project Capestoppers. He has not even said he would be directing either of these films. All of this leaves plenty of time to finish the script and start work on the Man of Steel. And I'm sure getting Supes to fly again is at the top of the list for WB after TDK's success.

Darren Aronofsky Leading ROBOCOP - Jul 25, 2008 - 06:51am
From this description and from what I've read elsewhere this Robocop is not meant to be a remake but just another movie in the series, which is fine by me. I won't rant about the stupidity and money grubbing of remaking a 20 year old classic. Aronofsky and Self can come up with a great new installment in the franchise and add their own twists & interpretations to the character and his world from there.

DiCaprio and WB Team for a New TWILIGHT ZONE - Jul 25, 2008 - 06:32am
Are the Shat and Lithgow going to be seeing things on the wing again? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9f4TJ8XNRs

DARK KNIGHT Fastest to $200 Million - Jul 24, 2008 - 09:57am
Since I was away for the weekend I haven't had the opportunity to weigh in on TDK. So I will now. What a load of crap. Why anybody likes this movie is totally beyond me. Jeezus they jumped the shark on this film so bad its stupidity is indefinable. Space Chimps really IS loads better than it. I don't know how this movie could be considered so good. OK.........I was just funnin' ya. This movie is one of those watershed moments in cinematic history. It rises above its genre like Iron Man did. And while I would say IM is a great film I would not say it is worthy to be nominated as best picture. TDK, however is. Whether it or Ledger or the rest of the cast and crew receive Oscars is besides the point, though. As I said this movie now stands as one of those benchmarks of greatness filmmakers will now be measuring themselves by. I could go on but everyone else who loved this has said it all. I wonder how many people dressed as Jokers will be running around come Halloween?

Phillip Noyce Remaking CAPTAIN BLOOD - Jul 24, 2008 - 07:15am
I loved the original as a kid. I don't know how much damage I did to my house and my school with a big stick as my sword imitating Errol Flynn in this movie and Robin Hood, rescuing damsels from distress and dueling my friends. I would prefer they just come up with an original swashbuckler instead of a remake. I don't know how many people would be drawn to see it on name recognition, but the original is kind of obscure so I think I could tolerate a new version.

Tim Burton Has His New ALICE - Jul 24, 2008 - 06:54am
Hanso, you're so right. You know Carter and Depp have to at least make a cameo in this film. But this should be very good. As Galaga said this is a perfect story for Burton.

MTV Set to Remake ROCKY HORROR - Jul 24, 2008 - 06:50am
I suppose I could do my usual rant about remakes. About how this is treating the audience like babies to be fed only the "comfort food" that they think they can make easy money from. That it lowers the level of the creatives behind the scene because they don't come up with something new that sparks them to greatness and it is a far too easy route to take. That the films everyone considers classics and live warmly in the hearts of people are the original stories and not the re-telling of those stories with newer FX. I suppose I could. No, I'm not gonna do it.

Columbia Pictures is STEALING TIME - Jul 23, 2008 - 06:47am
Yeah,Wiseguy,it looks like time travel is becoming the new thing. They're adapting the novel the Time Traveler's Wife to the screen, and Spike Lee's next movie is about the real life scientist who is inventing a time machine. The Antikythera Mechanism is a real ancient Greek device with intricate gears that looks to be used for astronomical calculations. I guess for there story the filmmaker is adding new abilities to it.

Bryan Singer Overseeing CAPESHOOTERS - Jul 23, 2008 - 06:40am
Sounds like an interesting idea. I'm sure producing this won't interfere with directing Man of Steel. There are many hours in a day.

Peter Berg Revising HERCULES - Jul 23, 2008 - 06:36am
Wow, somebody actually took my suggestion and is doing a Hercules movie. It should be done instead of a Clash of the Titans remake but oh well. Berg should come up with a great take on it. I'm sure it won't be with Sorbo though. I've been at a family reunion and been away from the internet and the media a bit. Anything interesting happening? No good movies came out, huh? I heard Mamma Mia was good. Anybody see it?

Cohen and Paramount Remaking MONSTER SQUAD - Jul 17, 2008 - 07:09am
Please stop with the remakes of 20 year old movies, Hollywood! What? You can't hear me over the sound of flicking your stack of cash from B.O. receipts in front of your ears. I guess the money talks more than creativity. Studios and producers probably rummage through their catalogs of movies they saw as a kid and now have the power and opportunity to live a fanboy dream and do-over a childhood favorite in their image. A few remakes of things here and there are fine, but now it seems to have become its own genre: "the re-imagination movie". This doesn't make for classics that will live forever in the hearts & minds of moviegoers like the original they saw as a kid. It just puts money in their pockets.

First Teaser Trailer for TERMINATOR SALVATION - Jul 17, 2008 - 06:41am
That was a pretty good teaser. It's not going to show you alot because, well it's a teaser. But it got me interested. I'm hoping the enthusiasm that McG and some of the other people on it pays off with a great film. Tomorrow's the day! Tickets are already selling out! I'm sure the midnight shows will be packed! The movie everyone is talking about at last is here! I guarantee it will make 100 mil this weekend! I'm already humming Abba tunes in my head! Mamma Mia is finally here!!! I pity the crappy movies that have to go up against 007 singing!

First Trailer for MAX PAYNE Leaked - Jul 10, 2008 - 12:51pm
I know nothing about the video game but this looks really good. Hope it breaks the video-game-to-movie curse.

Jon Favreau Signed For IRON MAN 2? - Jul 10, 2008 - 12:49pm
A no-brainer. I assume he will be well-compensated. And I hope all the time it took for this to happen wasn't because of some stiff pencil pushers in the Marvel offices who don't know how to treat their creative staff.

Redband Trailer for HELL RIDE Online - Jul 10, 2008 - 06:54am
Bikers are the new 'boarders.

Columbia Protects Mytholoical Creatures in VETERINARIAN - Jul 10, 2008 - 06:50am
Kwsupes, I agree. That name would not be good on a marquee. They might go with Monster Vet or Creature Doc or something. But I do think this is a great idea. Full of potential.

Robert Downey Jr. is Ritchie's SHERLOCK HOLMES - Jul 10, 2008 - 06:40am
What an excellent choice. RDJ could probably be either candidate's VP choice these days 'cuz he's so hot. But I can definitely see him doing this. I wouldn't be surprised if a studio can't get Johnny Depp for a role they'll start going for Downey. They kind of put out a similar on-screen vibe. Velgron, anybody can do anything they want with Sherlock Holmes. Like Frankenstein or Dracula, he is a public domain character. If somebody wants to do him as a gay transexual dwarf who's a kung fu expert living on Mars in the 28th century they can go ahead and do it.

Walden Media Becomes HOUSEBROKEN - Jul 09, 2008 - 10:47am
Wiseguy, I wasn't putting down Christianity or Walden Media either. I was just giving a heads-up to where they are coming from. And like I said, they have done pretty well with it. If we can only get other major corporations to let their spiritual values dictate how they do business instead of a dollar bill. Scientology and Thugee cults. Ok, I might pick on them.

Tarantino's War BASTARDS Preps for October Start - Jul 09, 2008 - 08:33am
And that's one to grow on!

Walden Media Becomes HOUSEBROKEN - Jul 09, 2008 - 07:35am
Yes, Walden Media is run by born-again Christian CEO so all their fare tends to be more G-rated non-controversial stuff. They just felt there wasn't enough of those kind of movies for families with that orientation. And it seems to have worked out for them. I've only seem the Narnia stuff which I enjoyed, but I'm like you. I'd rather see Neverending Story, Dark Crystal, or Time Bandits then something too syrupy sweet.

Ellsworth Writing Remake of RED DAWN - Jul 09, 2008 - 07:18am
I agree with everybody above. Why even call it Red Dawn if it's not the same story? You can do a great story about people living in some kind of post terrorist controlled America who fight back, but you can make up your own original story. There is no need to reference another movie. No wait, there is. Because you want to do the same "remake/re-imagine" thing that's been done with many horror movies from the 80's. Sell the idea to studio execs and the public on a bought name just so you can fill seats. At least I hope original director/writer John Milius is getting a good piece of change for then using his work. As a matter of fact, why isn't he doing this pic? He is known for his ultra-conservative He-man action movies that have lots of historical reference (Conan/Apocalypse Now/The Wind and the Lion/Magnum Force/HBO's Rome). Why wouldn't he just do this himself?

Tarantino's War BASTARDS Preps for October Start - Jul 09, 2008 - 07:06am
This is his take on the Dirty Dozen idea but didn't I hear someone else was going to remake that movie? I'd probably end up liking the QT version, though.

Warner Bros. and Thurber Adapting ELFQUEST - Jul 09, 2008 - 06:37am
YES!!! I picked this series up many, many moons ago when it was still a little independent comic and loved it. It had great storytelling, art and a wonderful magical sense and I thrilled to the stories of Cutter, chief of the tribe, his loyal inquisitive friend Skywise, and the other members of his Wolfriders who you got to know intimately. Also his wife Leetah who he was destined by elfin Recognition to be with and their children. I would tell anybody who would listen about it. It got very popular during the mid-80's and was one of the biggest independent books out when Marvel and DC had the market cornered. There was talk of an animated movie then but it never happened. I hope the Pinis are very involved in this and (as always) it is done right.

TV Wasteland: Stargate's Back Minus One Character - Jul 07, 2008 - 10:46am
I hadn't realized the new Stargate: Continuum DVD was out. Gotta rush to Blockbuster. Richard Dean Anderson made the show for me, so I'm looking forward to seeing him back with the old gang. I think I saw a clip of RDA on TMZ.com where he'd put on some weight. R.I.P. Mr. Davis.

RZA Teams with Eli Roth for MARTIAL ARTS Film - Jul 07, 2008 - 09:57am
Definitely a "We'll see what we'll see."

Cohen Answers Question for MUMMY 3 - Jul 07, 2008 - 08:55am
I've very much admired the total access director Rob Cohen has allowed on this film with his blogs and all. A textbook example of good movie PR. I would have preferred Weisz in this film but if she was not up for it, hopefully Bello will work out. I wouldn't have liked the "Evie's away doing something else" explanation because what I really like about the last Mummy film was the family rapport that went on and with the mom not there it would have been gone. I don't think of Cohen as one of today's truly great directors but one of those guys who gets the job done with a little style and makes the money. Other than FX (and Biel) ,Stealth was not great for me. XXX was a movie that did it's job but was nothing astounding. And I enjoyed Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story mainly for its subject matter. From the trailer it looks like Cohen will give us another fun popcorn movie in an established franchise and that's all I'm expecting.

Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 08:06am
Alien, there is always something in a movie (especially high-concept ones) that might stretch credibility. If the director can bring it across so that you don't worry about it too much then he is doing a good job. I thought about the engineers and techs who built the Batmobile who saw it on TV and realized it was the Tumbler they built for Wayne Enterprises. Then they might think who in the world could have access to that and go from there. But because the film is so enjoyable it was fine for me to let that slide. Rooftop Tanking might have been a tad too much for you in BB but hopefully you enjoyed the rest.

Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 07:58am
I agree with Ponyboy on Hancock. I enjoyed it. It could have been better but the story came across very well.Almost a nother take on the themes of Unbreakable. If there is a sequel some more detail could be fleshed out on the background, but if this is the only one film for this it'll do just fine.

Director for Earth Stood Still Talks GORT - Jul 07, 2008 - 07:13am
Another movie I've started having great hopes for. I see the sense of his keeping Gort essentially the same. There is something spooky about this tall, featureless man-like automaton whose very presence is fear-inducing. Come up with some scary music like the original and I'll be hiding under the bed like I did as a kid.

New Promo Pic For WOLVERINE - Jul 07, 2008 - 06:59am
I have big hopes for this film. The USA Today pic is how I look when I haven't had my fiber.

First Official Trailer for EARTH STOOD STILL Online - Jul 03, 2008 - 09:48am
The original is also on my fave list. Gort scared the hell out of me as a kid and the 50's music was the best. I really liked this trailer. It looks like it has keep the basic idea of the original but given it the proper modern feel. I had been worried about this remake before but now I'm interested for sure. I wanna see Gort in this one, too. I hope he scares the bejeezus outta me like the first one did.

Millar Will Deliver New Pitch for SUPERMAN - Jul 03, 2008 - 08:33am
I kind of doubt it will work out. WB already has a working relationship with Singer. He already has working plans for his Supes sequel. Unless they really have concerns about whether Singer will deliver a profitable film (SR did make money just not as much as they expected), I wouldn't thing they'd rock the boat with another re-vamp of the character so soon.

David Fincher and Dark Horse Leads THE GOON - Jul 03, 2008 - 08:12am
I read one issue of this by chance and loved it. It has a Eisner/Spirit feel to it. Mix in some old 40's gangster films and Bowery Boys/East Side Kids flicks with some Little Rascals. Then stir in some supernatural horror ala Berni Wrightson and you get the vibe. As soon as I read it I thought it would make a great dark animated movie. Live action could work too and I think Fincher could give this the right atmosphere. Someone like Tim Burton would be wrong. He has more of a gothic fairy tale texture rather than the tough urban look this should have.

Bale Will Bail if Robin Shows in KNIGHT Sequel - Jul 03, 2008 - 07:50am
What about Bat-Mite? Ya gotta have him! Don't you want a mischevious little imp flitting around the Nolan/Bale Batman world causing loads of silly fun. Think of the toy merchandise. Hey, put down those knives!!!

WB Utilizes Time-Travel By HIDING - Jul 02, 2008 - 10:07am
I think as long as Miller is affiliated with the film, Australian model Megan Gale is the choice for Wonder Woman. She looks the part (google her) to me but I have no idea about her acting talent.

WB Utilizes Time-Travel By HIDING - Jul 02, 2008 - 07:53am
Wolfman, I might get beaten from the village for it but one thing I admired about the Schumacher Batman films is that he made time for all the characters, heroes and villians, and gave them a distinct piece of the pie to shine in. Everybody got there stories told and it contributed to the whole. I didn't enjoyed the plot or tone of the movies but it shows how it's possible for something like a Justice League movie can work.

Cohen and Ferrell Lead SHERLOCK HOLMES - Jul 02, 2008 - 07:45am
Try sending any petitions to Holme's actual address 221B Baker Street which I think is really a museum for him.

Comicscape: Wanted vs. Wanted - Jul 02, 2008 - 07:24am
Wiseguy, I think I said on some of the other review pages for this film that I agree with you on the inconsistencies. He seems to do alot of stunts for the coolness and they don't always serve the story. But in the end I didn't mind. I enjoyed it and was emotionally satisfied, which is what you usually want out of a movie anyway.

Comicscape: Wanted vs. Wanted - Jul 02, 2008 - 07:02am
I haven't read the Wanted graphic novel, but it should be noted that Millar and Jones are listed as co-producers on the film with Marc Silvestri as exec. None of the changes from novel to film didn't happen without going through the creators. Millar has even already said how enthusiastic he is for a sequel. While it's appropriate to lament when a story is taken from the novelist and he has no control over how it comes to the screen (there are plenty of stories of that), this is a case where it appears the originating minds were completely for it. So more power to 'em.

Kilmer, Balfour Outmatch Death in SILVER CORD - Jul 02, 2008 - 06:44am
This does have a similar feel as Invisible and Ghost but it will all come down to execution. What? Nobody liked Kilmer in Batman Forever? Anyone?...Anyone?...Bueller?

WB Utilizes Time-Travel By HIDING - Jul 02, 2008 - 06:36am
Anybody complaining about there not being any good ideas isn't paying attention. Here's another one with great potential.

Cohen and Ferrell Lead SHERLOCK HOLMES - Jul 02, 2008 - 06:30am
This is how it works when a character is public domain. There can be as many takes on him simutaneously as the market will allow. We'll see how much the market WILL allow.

First Look Featurette Online for MUMMY 3 - Jul 01, 2008 - 08:02am
I think the movie looks like fun. I especially enjoyed Mummy Returns. The idea of this adventurous family traveling the globe getting in to trouble was alot of fun. However, I can't see the above featurette. If I click on the link in IE it says the page can't be displayed. If I click on it in Firefox it takes me to the Minerals Management Service Home Page. Whatupwitdat?

Phillip Noyce Directing Cruise's EDWIN A. SALT? - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:51am
"Sleeper agent?" Isn't that what you slip to kids to get them to pipe down on an airplane? If Peter Berg isn't going to work on this film perhaps he can start on his version of Dune sooner.

CBS Messes With Minds in SEMINAR - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:47am
Telling you a movie is like Disturbia or The Game is just an easy shorthand to give people an idea of what they are going for. I'm sure it helps when presenting the idea to studios and investors. It's like saying this movie is "Jaws in outer space" for Alien. (Actually 20th Century Fox said the movie was The Omen in outer space at the time since Jaws was a Universal pic and The Omen was theirs.) After saying all that I'm still pretty vague as to what this film is about from that plot concept.

Four Historical Figures Added to MUSEUM 2 - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:35am
I still haven't seen the first. I don't know why just haven't gotten to it. Got to make a mental note to tivo it off HBO this week.

New DARK KNIGHT Trailer, New Villain for Third Film? - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:31am
Riddler would be a perfect villian for this incarnation of the Bat. I could see him at first as a big reality show celebrity known for his brilliant mind and big ego. After seeing commericals for the upcoming CBS series the Mentalist I would fashion the Riddler along those lines along with a mix of magician Derren Brown and David Blaine. He would be a person famous for tricks, brainy feats and solving mysteries for the police, all befitting his stage name of Ed Nygma. After seeing endless news stories about the Dark Knight and feeling the spotlight moving off of him, he starts to challenge this so-called hero. "He can beat up people in the dark but does he have any brains at all?" he wonders. He devises challenge after challenge, each becoming more difficult to solve and since he has sociopathic tendencies, he pretty much doesn't care who gets hurt along the way so long as his mental prowess can reign supreme. That's my Riddler and I'm sticking to it.

Most WANTED - Jun 29, 2008 - 02:38pm
Scott Mantz, I agree with your review completely. It has alot of Matrix wannabe in it but the director's great style and the plot twists made this pic great fun. They also took an idea I've had since I was a kid and put it to use, only I thought of it with hamsters instead of rats. I haven't read the graphic novel yet, but I know there are alot of differences between it and the movie. For those who might be upset by this you have to know that Millar is also a producer on this and is obviously down with all the changes. He's already excited to start on a sequel. I prefer Jolie with a little more meat on her bones than in this film but I wouldn't kick her out of bed when she started munching on Lay's. I think I found the film's theme of self empowerment most enjoyable. We all need more of that. Now I have to work on my time distortion skills and snatch the wings off of flies.

Box Office: WALL-E Victorious But WANTED Strikes Hard - Jun 29, 2008 - 02:11pm
Saw Wanted last night. As it started it felt like the Matrix wannabe it appeared to be from its trailers, but with its twists it turned into an enjoyable action flick for me. I especially liked its overall theme of self-empowerment.I thought there was just enough substance to its style to make most of the action exciting. But as Wiseguy said there is alot of gaps and inconsistencies. It reminds me of Highlander in that respect. It was another film of stylish action, and alot of how the immortal's world worked was left pretty vague. It took the TV series to flesh it out into a coherent path. And it took 3 more movies to show its producers and writers were on an LSD binge. I'd like to see more of the Wanted world not only to iron out such things as what exactly are the abilities of these gunmen besides great time distortion and bullet curving and how that helps you flip a car like you're in the Matrix. Also where they come from and how the loom works.I'd also want to see Wesley Gibson facing new challenges. With the money it is making the sequel is inevitable.

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 01:10pm
Do the snake tongues tickle all around while the mouth is at work? :-O

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 11:07am
Almostunbiased, yeah I'll grumble about it but the minute I see a cool trailer I'll be in line to see it. And Zeus was all about the modern tech. Kimbo Slice as Zeus firing his laser rifle down from Mt. Olympus!

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 08:59am
Wolfie I am so sorry, dude. I haven't been to my profile page in so long. I think Bin Laden was trying to turn himself into me there but I never got back to him. "See that!?! This is why I hate America!!!",he growls and stomps back into his cave.

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 08:46am
Almostunbiased, I have nothing against remakes. They've been a part of the movie business forever. It has just been the recent spate for a few years of remaking things that are sometimes only 20 years old. Mostly they have been horror movies and are usually cheaply done. More often than not,the rights were bought by a producer who saw money potential in a known name that people would go see just because they were curious. It is an easier risk than coming up with something entirely new that studios maybe wary of financing. Some remakes can be very good if you get a filmmaker who is passionate and has a great vision and I like Leterrier's style and he might do justice to the project. But why aren't they calling this the Saga of Perseus and Andromeda? The actual myth is public domain and anybody can make it into a film. But it's called Clash of the Titans because the producers figured they could get money from a studio and butts in a chair if they bought a name that people are familiar with. Like I said, it could turn out to be great but it strikes me as more BUSINESS than SHOW.

Scribes Haas & Brandt Pen Fantasy ALL CREATURES - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:42am
This sounds like a good idea. Sort of Animal Farm with a Green twist.

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:39am
Velgron, you are not the only one tired of unecessary remakes. I count this as one. The original was a cute, kind of kid-oriented FX spectacle marking the great Ray Harryhausen's last movie. It has its charm but I don't believe it was very successful in it's time, so why remake this one? If you want to do a Sword and Sandal FX movie there are loads of other great myths to do. Hercules would be great. He's already got name recognition. This is simply another case of producers buying up the rights to a property that has some noteriety like Halloween in order to make some bucks off of it. It may end up being good but it just doesn't need to be re-made IMHO. The new Day The Earth Stood Still makes since as a remake because you can orient it around today's modern ills and it becomes relevant.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Shazam-mess , Avengers Team & Super Survival - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:11am
Shazam: I'm not a particular fan of the comic, so whether its now or later doesn't matter to me. They can't call it Captain Marvel because Marvel comics has the trademark on the name. I don't know all the legal particulars but Marvel would have to give them permission to use it. Like DC allowed the use of Karate Kid for the movies. Hellboy III: That's a long way off. And it's true, you have to see how successful this one is. I remember del Toro mentioning once that now that the character is with Universal Studios he was interested in bringing their other traditonal monsters into the fold (Frankenstein/Dracula/Mummy). 300: Just leave it alone. One was fantastic. It doesn't require continuation.Don't push your luck. Avengers: This one I can't wait, but there are several movies to go to get to it. I thought Matthew Vaughn had dropped out of Thor to do Kick-Ass or will he return after he's done? Superman: Again I can't wait. I liked SR and I beleive the next will be more action-oriented. Cloverfield 2: Again it's better to leave it as is but they won't.

CLOVERFIELD 2 On Hold, 300 Prequel Coming - Jun 26, 2008 - 08:49am
"a predator 3 would be nice where vin disel is teamed up with jason statham and the rock all working together hunting a group of 5 predators on a killing spree in iraq ( conflict and hot " and this year it grows hot " )" Zack that actually sounds like a cool idea!

Nicole Ritchie Joining NBC's CHUCK - Jun 26, 2008 - 07:31am
Raith, that's how it seems to work nowadays. You need to do some quirky Youtube videos that get you noticed. Then casting directors will say, "Let's give that RaithManan guy a chance at this part. I don't know if he's any good but my kid keeps playing his videos all the time."

E.T Clips of KNIGHT Online - Jun 26, 2008 - 07:01am
