Dreamworks Animation's first film utilizing stereoscopic 3-D technology, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, has been pushed ahead from May 15, 2009 to March 27, 2009. Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2) and Rob Letterman (Shark Tale) are directing this 3-D look at the 50's era of monster movies & both Dreamworks and Paramount are excited about this new technology they're using for the feature film.

"I believe that next generation 3-D will make our CG films even more special and unique," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation. "We are thrilled to have 'Monster vs. Aliens' as the first opportunity for audiences to enjoy this exciting new movie experience. Moving to a March release date, which has proven to be a great slot for family films, allows us to roll out our first 3-D project on the maximum amount of screens as the year's first big event film to hit the market in this new format."

"We are really excited to be distributing 'Monsters vs. Aliens,' the marriage of a new technology with the classic family entertainment audiences have come to expect and love from DreamWorks Animation," added Rob Moore, President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Paramount Pictures. "This new immersive 3-D experience will fully exploit the latest in exhibition technology-and with the March 27 release date, we'll be able to take full advantage by showing it in as many theaters with this advanced 3-D capability as possible."

Plot Concept: Based on the horror comicbook "Rex Havoc," which reinvents the classic '50s monster movie into an irreverent modern day action comedy about a monster hunter called upon to battle aliens who disrupt cable TV service.

MONSTERS VS. ALIENS hits theaters everywhere March 27, 2009.

Sounds like they have no faith in it being a summer movie. Bad omen.

This is such a boring throw away concept. Any simpleton could have come up with this story and thus, this movie!!! What a waste of technology.

I'm a fan of animated films, so I'll probably give this a shot...especially to find out about this 'new 3D' they are talking about. As far as a 'boring throw away concept' I've learned to wait and see. I thought Iron Giant was a lame concept, but end up a great, highly underated movie that I totally recommend. Who knows...this could be fun? JD www.moviesfornobodies.com

I don't see how you can say this is a waste from the limited description given here, metalwater. Unless you are familiar with the book it is based on and don't like it, the basic idea sounds like it has potential. A few years ago someone says they are going to make a kid's animated movie about a retired super hero who sneaks back into action because he is bored, and from that limited description it sounds very pedestrian. But it becomes Pixar's The Incredibles which in my book is one of the best superhero movies ever made. It's all in the execution.

Uh. . . . . "The Incredibles" and "Best Superhero Movies" should not be in the same sentence.

Vapor is right. The proper phrase should be: The Incredibles which in my book is the best superhero *movie* (singular) ever made.

I have to agree with MONKEYFOOT

March?! Ouch... Beginning of May would be fine, but March? Always a bad sign when your movie comes out in March.

Sounds to me like they don't want any part of what happened this summer: every single flick cannibalizing the other.
