More on APOLLO 13 IMAX

In a press conference attended by CINESCAPE's own Anthony C. Ferrante, director Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks discussed this summer's re-release of APOLLO 13 on IMAX screens across the country.
In joking about the prevelance of big movies (GLADIATOR, MATRIX, JURASSIC PARK 3) going to IMAX, Hanks joked that lesser films, including one of his own, are coming next. "PROBLEM CHILD 3, EAT MY DUST, and TURNER AND HOOCH [are coming," the APOLLO 13 star joked.
But in the press conference, Ron Howard said APOLLO 13: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE (which is what the re-release will be called) won't be just a 35 mm film projected onto one of the mammoth IMAX screens like other Hollywood live action films, but rather a total translation to the super-clear 70 mm format.
"When we first saw APOLLO 13 transformed using this technology, we were speechless," said Richard L. Glenfon, a CEO and chairman of IMAX, referring to the new digital technology which will make the translation possible. "Star fields which were three points of light in 35 mm became full galaxies in IMAX."
