Rumor: Zooey Deschanel circling SPIDER-MAN?

The Spider-Man rumor of the day has actress Zooey Deschanel in talks to play Betty Brant in the new movie, according to Showbiz Spy. Deschanel starred as the title character in director Marc Webb's utterly charming romance (500) Days of Summer. Allegedly Webb wants her back for his 3D reboot movie.

While Betty Brant was a very minor presence in the previous movies (with Elizabeth Banks wasted in the role), an unnamed insider claims Webb has big plans for her in this one.

THOR Worldwide Release Calendar

We've know for a long time that Marvel's Thor movie is set to open May 6, 2011 in the U.S. Now fans all over the world can now check the official movie site for the dates that the movie opens in their territories. Most global moviegoers will be seeing the thunder god in action a week ahead of fans in America.

Leterrier Confirms Y: THE LAST MAN Talks

Earlier in the year it was rumored that Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier was circling the big-screen adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's comic series Y: The Last Man.

Now MTV Splash Page had a chance to ask the director about the rumors and he confirmed he's had talks with New Line Cinema about the project. However, his attachment to it is very tenuous, if he's even still attached at all.

"I'm surprised that it hasn't gotten made yet," Leterrier told MTV News. "The first time I read it, I was in France and doing my little movies, and I didn't think I would ever have access to these kinds of movies. Midway through Clash of the Titans, I was like, 'What's going on with Y The Last Man?' I called one of the producers and asked what was going on, and he said it was available. I said, 'Let's go!'"

However, despite Leterrier's pleas to let him move forward, the project is stalled as far as the director can tell.

"I still want to do it. I'm passionate about it. But it's stuck. People don't know what to do with it. I'd love to do it, but I need people to finance it, and the people financing it don't know if it's a TV show a movie, or what it should be," he explained. "It could play as a movie, but it would be very interesting as a TV show."

The director cites the capacity to build a longer, deeper story that will enjoy a longer life in broadcast an DVD as advantages over the hot-today-gone-tomorrow nature of movies.

Thanks to AntoBlueberry for the submission.

Spiderman: Zooey as Betty Brant ," who will play a bigger part in this set of movies" So they are going for a love triangle with Gwen and Brant, hmmm.

Thor: Soo stupid, but I am begining to beleive that they do this so the boot leggers will get it out there , Im pretty sure that Hollywood has nt suffered much at the box office due to boot leggers. Its great advertising. it also proved that even if it sucks and gets put out on the internet it can still do awesome numbers at the box office look at Wolverine, that movie was as bad as a dirty diaper after the kid has had strained carrots and peaches.

Y: The Last man : After the success of The WALKING DEAD, I think this would be perfect as a mini series or a series for cable, a Movie im not buying. Channels like FX , AMC and Scfy have proven that they can bring great tv to the masses let them have it.

Young Justice: Man I hope its half as good as AVENGERS, which is getting better with each episode, lastnights was the best episode so far the pacing and writing was amazing, one of the best cartoon episodes I've seen. Also I d like  to thank Cartoon Network for the birthday present, Im pretty intrested in seeing this as I am a huge fan of both DC animation and The TEEN TITANS and JOUNG JUSTICE titles

Captain America: Tank you for the pic of the tank looks cool

I think Deschanel would be great as Brant but note that it would be an even bigger waste of talent if the character has no scenes.

Wh00t for Captain America and Young Justice!

Aha!  I knew it!  No MJ meant Betty Brant.  Excellent!  Apparently they are going back to the Ditko years and we can avoid all the angst of the previous three movies.  Seriously, enough of the whining and the crying and please can everything not be connected with Uncle Ben's death, and don't kill the Green Goblin and Harry and Doc Ock....oy!  Idiots!

Looks like Marvel forgets that North America includes Canada also and not just the US...

gutsmgee 11/11/2010 8:19:47 AM

And you apparently forgot Mexico?

gutsmgee 11/11/2010 8:22:58 AM

I love the code name for the movie in the pics of the cast/crew trailers: Frostbite

jfdavis 11/11/2010 9:57:36 AM

Mexico is listed under Latin America...

While I would much rather see Y: THE LAST MAN as some sort of Cable TV Series, I absoluetly love the story and would be pleased with a film as well.  As for Zooey Deschanel, I enjoy her acting and would love to see her in Spider-Man.

lusiphur 11/11/2010 10:51:37 AM

Zooey?  As Betty Brant?  Well, Betty was a comic book character, but I think she had more than one expression on her face.  Compare that to the indifferent, vacant stare which Ms Deschanel emotes with and I'd rather watch a motion film of  a Ditko comic.
