Nelson Still Hopes to LEAD the HULK

The Playlist chatted up actor/filmmaker Tim Blake Nelson who fans saw play Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk. Of course, the action of that film positioned Stearns to transform into his comic book alter ego, the big brained villain known as The Leader.

Nelson told Playlist that, in spite of the musical chairs casting of Bruce Banner (with Mark Ruffalo replacing Edward Norton in The Avengers) he would still like to take on the role of the full-on gamma villain.

"I certainly very much want to return as the Leader and I hope they’ll have me. The intention was that I would come back, which is why my head starts to, um, bubble, at the end. It’s just a question as to whether a) they’re going to make more Hulk movies, and b) because of Ruffalo, if they’re going to use me again," Nelson said, adding that his contract obliges him to return to the role if necessary.

Marvel could conceivably include The Leader in the Avengers movie. They could also make another Hulk film with Ruffalo and include the villain there. Most recently Marvel has announced their intentions to make a live-action Hulk TV show. So there are plenty of ways Nelson could have his wish.

GHOST RIDER 2 Director Addresses Speculation

So the official twitter feed of Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor recently carried a vaguely worded message for fans of the film franchise.

"The dual role of [Johnny Blaze]/Zarathos will be a Nic Cage classic"

This lead to rampant speculation that somehow Cage was somehow playing both hero and villain in the movie. Rather than speculate, went directly to Taylor for some expansion and clarification on the comment.

"Zarathos is the spirit of vengeance that inhabits John Blaze when he becomes Ghost Rider," Taylor said, stating what most fans already know. However, he went on to reveal something new.  "Unlike the 1st movie, where the Rider was stiffly acted out by a various stunt guys, Nic will be playing all the Ghost Rider stuff himself – and we are creating a whole physical language for the demon that is different from the human Blaze."

So there you have it. Nicolas Cage will be providing the mo-cap performance for his flaming alter ego in the movie which should prove entertaining.

Cool!! Cap has the original shield after all.  Awesome.  And I will say, though I'm not a fan of Joe Johnston the director he certainly has the talent to get the look right for a movie.  He just usually fails to put the story together very well.

Oh yeah, which one of you bloggers yesterday said Evans looked to skinny for the role?

Can't wait for Walking Dead....too bad its only 6 episodes and then we have to wait till next October for season 2.

lusiphur 10/29/2010 6:53:25 AM

Yay!  Original Cap Shield.  Now everyone can stop with the "I hope they use the classic WWII shield".  Thank you.  Red Skull is working for Hydra before his transformation (or is he wearing a mask in this shot?)?  Doesn't that coincide with what they did in the new Avengers cartoon series?  I really like what I'm seeing here.  This looks very promising.

So Nic Cage is going to do mo-cap for the Ghost Rider parts of the movie?  And that's supposed to make things better?  Please make this go away.

Is it Sunday yet?  C'mon already!

Bring on the Leader!  However they do it, Sterns should come back to play him.  At least have SOME continuity within your Hulk movies.

gopherblaster 10/29/2010 6:57:42 AM

I always thought the Red Skull was supposed to be Hitler.  I know Im an idiot

wessmith1966 10/29/2010 7:20:00 AM

The Captain America photos look great. Evans looks perfect for the role. I like the shot of Cap surrounded by the troops, and I'm glad to see he'll have the original shield. We need trailers for Thor and Cap immediately!

The Ghost Rider movie should just ride off into the sunset. Instead of making another GR, how about bringing a different character to the screen. Make a Luke Cage and Iron Fist Heroes for Hire movie, or better yet how about a Black Panther movie. We just really don't need another GR film with Cage. Let him stick to makng National Treasure movies.

Can't wait for Walking Dead; it looks fantastic and it's always good to see Sarah Wayne Callies on the screen. It's a shame we only get a few episodes of this show yet we gets months worth of idiotic shows like The Apprentice, Dancing With the Stars, American Idol and the absolute worst show ever...Biggest Loser. A show about watching obese people losing weight and crying about, great television. I applaud them for their efforts, because I know how hrd it can be to battle the bulge, but I really don't want to watch it.

CaptAmerica04 10/29/2010 7:30:00 AM

Yes, yes, yes, yes.  I take back everything I said about my worries of Chris Evans.  He looks GREAT (other than being a little short, which I'll forgive)!!!  This movie will OWN the summer of 2011.  I'm thrilled that they're going to use both shields in the film as rumored.  And Hugo Weaving is going to be LEGENDARY as Red Skull!!

P.S.  Ghost Rider 2 is going to suck balls.

Rheul_home 10/29/2010 8:18:42 AM

Seriously? Was there any doubt that the triangular shield would be in the film? I have a feeling that it will be the shield he uses in the USO show and will be discarded for the round one when he becomes combat active.

millean 10/29/2010 8:23:34 AM

Transformers 3:  You know, I always said the only thing missing from a good Transformers story was a love triangle between humans....  And was it just me, or did Shia look like he was on drugs or something?  (Of course it was just me because none of the rest of you probably bothered watching that clip.)

Transformers Prime: Looks pretty cool, but it would be lots better with traditional robot designs rather than those crappy movie designs.  :(

Captain America: This movie is looking better and better.  Love seeing the old shield, but it looks like it might be a USO show prop to me (the colors are awfully bright, even when compared to Cap's uniform they are using.)  And wow, check out Chris.  As a straight man secure in his masculinity, gotta say he is very impressive looking.  (OK, need to rewatch the Transformers clip to get some more Rosie Huntington Wheatley as a palette cleanser...)

Ghost Rider 2: Well, about the only thing I can say about this is I think I'd rather see this than Transformers 3.

Hulk: Bring on the leader.  Hopefully in another Hulk feature film.

Hey wessmith, looking at your avatar reminded me... I just watched the original The Day the Earth Stood Still for the first time last night.  Like it better than the remake, and that is saying something for a movie that is that old.  (I usually don't care for those older movies, but it was pretty good.)

millean 10/29/2010 8:25:15 AM

Rheul beat me to my USO shield idea!!!!! (That's pretty funny, and obviously I agree.)  :)

Wyldstaar 10/29/2010 8:26:19 AM

Cap looks fantastic.  I love the standard issue helmet painted blue with an A on it & goggles, as he appeared in Ultimate Avengers #1.

Is the fact that the license is about to expire really a good enough reason to rush a Ghost Rider movie into production?  The last time a movie studio did this, we got the unreleased Fantastic Four movie.  A film so awful that Marvel bought it just so they could burn it.  Just let the license expire so that the Spirit of Vengence can be incorporated into the Marvel Universe once more.  Same with Daredevil, Elektra, and the Fantastic Four.  I wish Fox and Sony would let go of X-Men and Spidey, but I'm realistic enough to know that such a thing isn't going to happen until they've completely run all of those characters into the ground, and maybe not even then.

LocoLobo73 10/29/2010 8:46:15 AM

HULK : STERNS should absolutely be in the next movie, THE LEADER is one of the Hulk's best villians, He is Banners intellectual equal, and the Hulks Gamma  side wrapped up in one big head. The only issue is that who else is going to be there with him, The Leader is the man in the shadows not the Pawns.

GR2: there is nothing good about this movie and that is the way its going top stay in my mind, just plain horrible, that way even if it is only mildly sh!#$ it will be an improvement.

T 3 : this is one of those movies that you want to be good , not really expecting more than we got with the last one, but at least we dont have to suffer through more of megan fox, damn how someone so hot can be such a shi%%& actress

CAPTAIN AMERICA: and now many nah sayers can shut up about Chris Evans as the Captain, All these shots look amazing and I cant wait to see another trailer, for this one, I would love to see a pic of Bucky also but, I agree they should try to keep the Skull under wraps
