More CHIPMUNKS on the Way

Date: Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Twentieth Century Fox will release ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS II on March 19, 2010.

With the first film pulling in $217.3 million domestically and $141.1 million overseas, it was only a matter of time before Fox set a sequel into motion.

The movie will be a co-production between Fox 2000 and New Regency.  No script has been written yet and the basic concept for the sequel's storyline has not been settled upon.

The chipmunks are tuning up for a bigscreen return in 2010.

At this time, Jason Lee, who played Dave Seville, is not attached to reprise his role as the Chipmunks' manager.

I REALLY thought this movie was going to be one of those family flops... I watched my fair share of the 'munks as a kid, but I just didn't see the same magic in the previews (probably because I wasn't 5 anymore)... Never in a bazillion years would I have guessed that movie was gonna make $217m. Needless to say a sequel was all but set in stone once this thing reached the $100m mark.

They gotta bring the girl chipmunks for the sequel.

Hey I agree... I just went with the kids to the movie and was impressed. I must admit I used to roll my eyes at the idea of "A chipmunks movie", but it was well done. The story and music was appropiate for kids and enjoyable for adults.

But if they were to bring the "girls", I hope that they don't have long hair like the cartoons... that would take away from the "reality" of the movie (I just said reality for a singing chipmunk movie... I love being a growed-up kid!!!

This is a no brainer, box office drives a sequel.

I'm amazed this movie did as well as it did. However, once it did, I'm not surprised at a sequel. I am surprised, however, that they didn't sign Jason Lee for a multi-pic deal...

I was actually surprised that this was a pretty good kid movie. I skipped it at the theater but recently bought the DVD for my 4 year old. She has currently watched it about a gazillion times.

I was as surprised as most of you guys how well this film performed and talk about having legs.

On a seperate note, it seems that Jarrod is on vacation but Mania seems to be leaving out some headlines and rumors that deserve some mention
1- Guy Ritchie is J.Silver's choice to direct Sgt.Rock from DC comics.

2-Kick Ass comic is in pre-production already.

3-Cap's shield makes a cameo in IronMan.Check the still on Latest Maniac's Updates

4-Another site is reporting that Marvel will invest 150 to 300mil on Thor and it will be the most "fantastic" Marvel adaptation to date and Pitt is the name being tossed around for the role.

5-"Hancock" is doing reshoots in NY. Usually bad news this late in the game. The film has failed to get a pg13 rating two times and isn't testing well so far.

6-Here is a link for some semi-nude shots of Megan Fox...http://www.wwtdd.com/post.phtml?pk=6142

7-Transformers 2 is rumored to be heading for the 3D treatment

8-Point Break is gettingb a sequel, but no word if Keanu will be part of it.

9-The one that's eating at me the most, this is just a rumor, but some sites are saying that Matt McConaughey is being considered for Captain America

I honestly didn't care to see this movie, but when my kids saw it, and I watched my 3 year old daughter singing and dancing to all the songs, I can't help but enjoy the movie. My kids loved it, so I'm glad to see a sequel.

I like in the toon stuff when they re-enact movies. They should do that in the next one.
