Rowling teases new book

The author revealed details of a new project involving the boy wizard on her personal website.

On her re-launched personal website, J.K. Rowling teased fans with the news that she is working on a new Harry Potter-related book.  Unfortunately, she's not writing book eight of the series. Instead, she's working on a Harry Potter Encyclopedia.

In the FAQ section of the website, Rowling wrote:
"For a long time I have been promising an encyclopedia of Harry’s world, and I have started work on this now – some of it forms the new content in Pottermore. It is likely to be a time-consuming job, but when finished I shall donate all royalties to charity." She didn't reveal any more details about the content of the book or when it might be finished. Rowling has written three other Potter-related books: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Rowling reiterated that she has no "immediate plans” to write a new Harry Potter adventure, but she added,  "I have always refused to say ‘never’ to this question, because I think it would be foolish to rule out something I might want to do in a few years’ time."

The news comes at the same time Pottermore, the online site for all things Harry Potter, finally opened to the public on Saturday.  The site, which had been in beta testing since late last year, offers interactive games, behind-the-scenes information and bonus content. One of the cooler aspects of Pottermore is the ability to put on the famous sorting hat to get placed into one of the four Hogwarts Houses.

At the moment, the interactive games involve the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but the plan is to add games relating to the subsequent volumes over time. Pottermore users can also purchase the newly released ebook versions of all seven Harry Potter books on the website.

So for now, we continue to play the waiting the game.

Sad thing is, I'll probably still buy it.

I'd be willing to bet that depending on her new book's success, we'll either see more Harry Potter related material or less. If she can venture into new genres with success, it will probably be less likely we see any more Harry Potter themed books from her. I love the world and think there is so much material in that universe that she could so many different routes other than HP and bring new stories hence why I kinda hope this new book of hers falls flat. :P

I will buy it, its for chariety anyway

Bummer.  I hate it when a franchise gets milked rather than adding new material to it.  Would you agree Mr. George Lucas???

Well hell! We've always known that. How is that news? I didn't by Beetle the Bard and I won't buy this one. Milking that cash cow seems to work!

I don't have magical powers, but I suspect you will see the return to the Potter universe at some point.  Authors have a hard time putting away their toys.
