I think MrJawbreakingEqualibrium (Jesus what a long name to type!!)  is right in the fact that the absence of the cape is due to them rehearing a scene and not needing for him to have it. The more I look at the costume without the cape, the more I like it, I agree with the comment that the 'S' should be a bit brighter, but I can live with that and a long cape!

Jaw, I thought the same thing.  It doesn't look like he is acting in the pics, so no need for a cape to kill time between takes.  Actually makes sense that they would take it off then to protect it.

Or here's another thought, maybe Faora went and tugged on Superman's cape... and ripped it right off.

And kudos to Higgy, for standing up for his opinion!  :)   I'm kinda surprised nobody else except Wes has commented on the spitcurl (and he even kind of had my back, to double my spitcurl surprise).  Actually I'd be fine even if he had the curl because it has been part of the character (but not all incarnations).  I have just always thought it was dumb, even in the comics.

I'm more happy that he doesn't have what someone else called "that guido hairdo" that he did in the promotional picture.

Damn much props to Cavill for doing the extreme hard work of bulking up. Even on some gear I couldn't get my arms that big, much respect even with cooks and personal trainers that is no easy feat..

Cavill looking like that alone goes along way to selling him as Superman. Yeah yeah Supes doesn't need muscle and all that but with them he looks the part for sure. Can't wait to see him in action.

Although I agree that he doesn't have the cape on cause it's just rehearsals I wouldn't mind the cape being cgi'd in. Unlike swisshammer I don't think it would look ridiculous as a matter fact I bet you wouldn't even know for sure til someone said if it was or wasn't like some of the sets of Boardwalk Empire for instance.

I might end up loving this movie, but my initial reaction to the suit is, is that its over stylized.  I Prefer a more traditional look.  I really don't care for the new suit. Oh well.

 Not a huge fan of the super suit, but whatever.  Seems like they are taking a bit of direction from the upcoming Spidey movie.  Guess the costumes were not iconic enough.  

i like the suit...mostly...but theres too much trim work..or seams...or whatever...sometimes less is more. Other than that..he looks awesome as Superman..i'm jacked up for this!

I like Snyder's style and decision with the suit, he did a similar thing with Watchmen. And at least he isn't going the black leather route or the black costume from the Return of Superman

I like this, and I think Cavill looks amazing - maybe him and Chris Hemsworth can armwrestle at comic-con to see who the biggest beefcake is? ;)

Not entirely convinced on the costume - some of the detailing reminded me a bit of the new Spider-Man costume, but I wouldn't say it won't all work in the film. Not minding the lack of red trunks, but I do think he needs a belt - he's got to be able to hook his thumbs into something! The costume doesn't look complete without it, to my mind, in these photos. But then again I'm sure it will grow on me the more I see it.

I think a belt would also balance the detailing out a bit and ground the body of the costume a little more in the familiar. I think you've got to be very careful in messing with the Supersuit - I think DC may have just pulled it off with the "New 52" costume, but I'm not convinced about this one... yet.

Can I say again that Cavill looks amazing? He truly looks like Superman, and as much as I am a fan of Brandon Routh (and I'm not looking to start a flame war over SR here), Cavill is even more reminiscent of Chris Reeve I think, but with muscles - just as if Gary Frank drew him, but in a new suit.

Cavill looks the part but I still think Jon Hamm would have made an excellent Superman/Kent.  Yes he's older but instead of doing all the back story crap he can already be a well established hero.  Let's face it, if you don't know the back story of Superman by now you're probably not going to see this movie.  I guess I can see going with someone younger for the sake of the franchise (sequels).  

My only reservation is Snyder.  I think he's a great director but his last few movies have been less than stellar.  Watchmen was wonderful (if you were a comic book fan) but most people didn't care for it.  Let's not talk about Legend of the Guardians and Sucker Punch.  I'm hoping he does great work with this one. 

I've been saying for awhile that Cavill would make a great Supes.  On one of the seasons of the Tudors, (yes i watched it, with the wife, so what), he had the look of Clark/Supes, the hair being perfect.  It wasn't as "poofy" as it looks now, especially on the sides.  It even had a bit of that classic curl, but not too much. 

Totally looking forward to this one.  Superman and the Hulk have been my favorites and am hoping we get a great version for the both of them with these new movies coming out.

P.S.  Gary Frank's version of the Hulk was great as well.
